  2. Tau, version 1.10

  4. Desktop graph preparation software. Tau generates publication-quality graphs
  5. in the form of Draw files, ready to import into your favourite word-processor
  6. or DTP. A data worksheet (16 columns by 1024 rows) can be filled by keying-
  7. in, importing from a file, and/or calculation. You determine line patterns
  8. and thicknesses, text positioning and font sizes, etc.

  33. I wrote Tau because I needed to prepare x-y graphs for publication in
  34. scientific journals and reports. The alternative was a PC, Harvard Graphics™,
  35. and sticky tape. Hence it is geared towards the production of a relatively
  36. small number of graphs with the maximum of user control over such niggly
  37. things as line thicknesses and dash patterns. Of course the results still
  38. leave scope for improvement, but that can always be done in !Draw. Note also
  39. the complete lack of junk such as pie charts and the like - if you want pie
  40. charts, you are probably in advertising or marketing, so go use Harvard :-).

  42. Tau is written in BBC Basic V on a 2Mb Acorn A4000 computer with RISC OS 3.1.
  43. I have tried it out with RISC OS 2 and it seems to work OK - the problem
  44. with the Save dialogue box has been fixed.

  46. This version of Tau is bug-ridden and incomplete. I finished writing it in
  47. September 1993, but didn't release it until now (August 1994) because of its
  48. general bugginess. However, it does all that I want it to, after a fashion,
  49. and I have very little time to improve it. If you have any constructive
  50. criticism, bug reports, or suggestions for features you think would be
  51. useful, please get in touch.
