  12.  PURPOSE
  13.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 
  14.  This program was written because I have yet to find a screensaver which
  15.  is small AND fast and has the options I want. I was looking for the
  16.  'dancing lines' pattern, but although many screensavers contain this
  17.  pattern is it often too slow, or only in black and white. I decided to
  18.  write my own screensaver to my own specifications and SmallSave is now part
  19.  of my boot sequence.

  22.  QUICK GUIDE
  23.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24.  Load the program and hold down Ctrl and Insert.

  27.  USING
  28.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  29.  SmallSave contains only a few options, and these are set from the Options
  30.  window. This is opened by clicking on the icon bar or selecting
  31.  'Options...' from the icon bar menu.
  32.  
  33.  The top box in the window shows the screensaver which is currently
  34.  selected. This will be used when the screen is blanked, and can be changed
  35.  by clicking in the box or on the menu icon to the right. Only three savers
  36.  are currently included:
  37.  
  38.     Lines : This is the common 'dancing lines' saver and is mode independent,
  39.             i.e. it will run in any mode, taking up the whole screen. It
  40.             looks best in hi-res 16 colour modes, but will work in most
  41.             modes which are likely to be used.
  42.             
  43.  Mirrored : This is similar to Lines, except a kaleidoscope effect is
  44.             achieved by reflecting the lines in horizontal and vertical axes
  45.             along the middle of the screen. This is also mode independent.
  46.               
  47.     Stars : This is a simple effect with stars which flash on and off at
  48.             random. Because of the method used, it will only run in mode 9.
  49.             The original mode is reselected when returning to the desktop.

  51.  Blank time is fairly self-explanatory, and any time from 1 to 999 seconds
  52.  can be entered.

  54.  If instant blank is selected then pressing Control and Insert together
  55.  will start the screensaver. This may be improved in a future version so
  56.  that the key combination can be specified by the user. If Ctrl-Insert
  57.  causes problems with any other (popular) programs, please let me know.

  59.  Selecting 'Hide icon' causes the SmallSave icon on the icon bar to be
  60.  removed. This means that once the options have been set up, the icon
  61.  isn't taking up space on the icon bar. Pressing Ctrl-Home will bring the
  62.  icon back. Again, please let me know if this combination causes any
  63.  problems.

  65.  The four icons along the bottom of the window are as follows:

  67.         Demo : This will enter screensaver mode with the saver which is
  68.                displayed at the top of the window
  69.             
  70.      Restore : Loads the options file from disc
  71.      
  72.         Save : Saves the new options to disc
  73.      
  74.           OK : Closes the window, remembering any changes.

  77.  SETTING UP THE PROGRAM FOR INCLUSION IN A BOOT SEQUENCE

  79.  Select the saver and blank time required and decide whether instant blank
  80.  should be available. Make sure that 'Hide icon' is selected and click on
  81.  Save, followed by OK. Insert a line in your boot file such as
  82.  
  83.         Filer_Run ADFS::IDEDisc4.Boot.Apps.!SmallSave
  84.  
  85.  The program will be loaded from the boot file. No icon will appear on the
  86.  icon bar but the program will be running with the options which you saved.
