This disk contains three applications !SCSIMgr,
!SCSIDiag and !SCSIFlash.
SCSIMgr SCSIDiag are updated versions of the
applications which you received with your SCSI II
card. A few brief notes on changes to the SCSIMgr
application can be seen later in these notes.
SCSIFlash is an application which will program
the flash on the SCSI II card with the latest
modules.
Simply double click on the application and on
completion SWITCH the computer OFF then ON again.
NOTE....It is NOT sufficent to do CTRL-BREAK.
SCSI Manager changes.
The application has been altered to bring it more in
line with the Acorn Style Guide.
It is now possible to enable and disable various
functions if your device supports them; for example
disconnect/reconnect. This is done through the
Driver Flags option on a "per device" basis. Care
must be taken when altering these functions as it
can affect the operation of the device.
A * command SCSIFlags has now been added to
SCSIDriver so that these flags can be viewed and
altered at the command line if required. Using this
you can also set host termination and bus resets.
A new button MODE SELECT has been added which gives
you access to the SCSI device mode options. You must
use this with care and in connection with the SCSI
device command set manual. Not all devices support
this and only some options will be alterable on
most devices.
An additional option has been added to the host
settings (via Set Host ID) to allow the SCSI Bus
Reset to be delayed. This has been added to cope
with some new hard drives which do not like to
receive a reset during their power-up cycle.
Other general changes.
Removable media device support has been improved and
a special icon added. We now poll removable devices
waiting for media to be inserted. On shutdown the
default is that media will be ejected and hard disks
will spin down. A configure option SCSIFSEject has
been added in order that eject/spin down on shutdown
can be set to OFF. Drives are now normally unlocked
and only locked by filecore when necessary. A new
menu item EJECT has been added for removable media
devices. This will dismount all partitions on that
device and eject the media or stop the motor if the
device does not support eject.
Spot the other little things for yourself as some
of you have mentioned them at some stage.
Thirdparty modules.
You may have modules such as CD-ROM drivers which have
been supplied on floppy disc by ourselves or other
companies. It may be desirable to put one or more of
these into the FLASH on the SCSI II interface. This is
possible using a ThirdParty directory.
An example thirdparty directory with a dummy module and
version file are included on this disc.
Create a similar directory in the modules directory of
!SCSIFlash and put a version file and your module in
an appropriate directory as per the example. When you
run !SCSIFlash you will then get your modules appearing
in the list of modules to be put into the flash.
Please do report any problems or successes so that
our technical support team can assist you and others.
