  5. !PBMtk is the RISC OS version of the Portable BitMap Plus (PBMplus) Toolkit,
  6. and is a collection of functions for the conversion of image files from one
  7. format to another and for the manipulation of images.
  8.  
  9. This release includes the source code. Interested readers may find this
  10. useful to see how not to write software for the RISCOS Desktop!!
  11.  
  12. PBMtk has been written for some time (since Nov 93) and was never really
  13. intended for release. It began as a project to find out how to program in C
  14. and how to program for RISCOS. It was intended as a means of preparing for a
  15. 'bigger and better' project that I have been working on since. I never did
  16. solve all the problems that I set out to solve. I am still working on them!!

  18. It has a number of shortcomings...
  19.  
  20. 1.  It opens a window but then does nothing with it. I had planned to
  21. display the image files in this window, but then figured that other tools
  22. like Translator or ChangeFSI can do this better or faster. One of these days
  23. if any interest is shown I might clean this aspect up..perhaps someone else
  24. might like to contribute.

  26. 2.  It is incomplete. I have compiled most of the PBMplus tools but not
  27. included them in PBMtk. See the Docs directory for a complete description of
  28. the PBMplus toolkit. Inclusion of all the tools would make the application
  29. HUGE. The source of all the tools and all the compiled binaries are
  30. available if anyone REALLY wants to take this project further, or use the
  31. binaries in another application.
