MultiPlay v1.10 by Chris Coe of Norsoft Productions
=========
Compatibility Warning
---------------------
TrackerModule 4.09 as employed by this program is not compatible with the
RISC PC. Do not use this program for playing STModule or STracker files if
you own a RISC PC.
Introduction
------------
One thing that has always annoyed me about track players is that they can
only usually play one or two different formats of music, and so MultiPlay was
born.
MultiPlay is capable of playing the following formats of music:
* STModule (&CB6)
* STracker (&001)
* CocoTrac (&364)
* Symphony (&10B)
* TeqMusic (&CC5)
The program contains three of the latest player modules for these tracks:
* TrackerModule 4.09
* CoconizerPlayer 1.00
* DSymphonyPlayer 1.10
Each tune is played on its own module, no conversion takes place. This an
advantage and a disadvantage:
Advantage:
What you hear is a perfect reproduction of the track. No quality
is lost during the conversion process.
Disadvantage:
With three players in memory simultaneously it can become rather
draining on the RMA. To overcome this problem, simply open the
Task Manager periodically and reduce the module area bar to its
minimum setting, periodically.
How to use MultiPlay
--------------------
Double-click on the !MultiPlay icon and it will install itself on the icon
bar. To play a track, you can either:
* Drag it to the icon bar icon
* Drag it to the control panel window (described below)
* Double-click on it
If you double-click on it when the filer has seen !MultiPlay, but it isn't
loaded, then !MultiPlay will load itself and the track automatically.
Clicking on the icon bar icon with the left mouse button will open a control
panel window. From here there are various things you can do.
* You can start/stop/pause/rewind/fast forward the current track.
* You can see the title and filetype of the track.
* You can adjust the volume of the track.
* You can see the current position and length of the track.
* You can choose manual/auto random tracks from an index file
(described later)
To control the current track, click on one of the five black and white icons
just as you would with a conventional hi-fi system. To adjust the volume
(which is in percent from 0-100), click on the arrows either side of the
volume icon.
Preferences
-----------
Press the middle button on the icon bar menu and choose the 'Preferences'
option to open up the preferences window. Once again there are various things
you can do from here:
* You can adjust the sample rate for STModule/STracker tunes. In VGA
modes such as mode 27, 28, 31 etc., tracker samples play at the
wrong speed. If this happens, try changing this value to something
between 0 and 4 until the problem disappears. In modes such as 12
and 15, the sample rate should be set to zero.
* Create and select an index file. Suppose you have a few favourite
tunes. If you create a text file in a program like !Edit, you can
make an 'index' file. It might look something like this:
adfs::4.$.Music.Rivers
adfs::4.$.Music.Rave-up
adfs::4.$.Music.Mellow
...
You can either type in the full pathnames manually, or you can drag
the track file to the wordprocessor with <SHIFT> held down, and its
filename will be inserted into the text. Once you have created this
file, save it with a suitable filename and drag it to the writable
icon next to 'Index file' in the MultiPlay preferences window. You
should see its filename appear in the box. Your index file is now
set up. You can now use various options to play the tracks you have
listed.
An easier way of creating an index file is to click on the 'Compile
Index' icon, and a warning will appear. Click on 'OK' to continue,
and a small window will appear. Drag all the tracks you want to
index to this window, one at a time or in groups. When you have
finished, press the middle button, move over the 'Save' option and
drag the icon to a filer window to save it. This allows you to
create index files without doing any typing.
* Set the random time limit. Once you have your index file, you can
set how long to play each track for in seconds with this option,
or alternatively you can choose to have the track played through
once.
* Set the 'random on startup' flag. If this is selected, then a track
will be played at random when you first load MultiPlay up, unless
it has been loaded by you double-clicking on another track, in which
case that will be loaded instead.
Clicking 'Cancel' will ignore all the changes you have made, clicking 'OK'
will set them until you quit MultiPlay, and clicking 'Save' will make the
changes permanent. There is a !Choices file inside MultiPlay which you can
edit manually should you wish to.
Playing tracks at random
------------------------
Clicking the 'Choose random' icon in the control panel window, or clicking
the right-hand mouse button on the icon bar icon will make MultiPlay pick a
track at random from the index file and load it up. Clicking on the 'Auto'
icon will have the same effect, except the track will play for the time
indicated in the preferences window, and then a new one will be loaded, ad
infinitum. The auto mode is cancelled when you click on the icon again, load
a new track manually, click on the 'Choose random' icon, compile a new index
from the preferences screen or stop the current track playing.
If you want to temporarily load a new index file, you can do so by dragging
it to the icon bar icon.

History
-------
1.00 - The original and first release version. Can play four types of track.
1.01 - Program no longer crashes when a track will not fit into the module
area - it gives an error and disables random mode instead.
1.02 - Even better crash protection plus you can load an index file by
dragging it to the icon bar icon
1.03 - Silly bug where volume of track is not updated when you type a new
one in and press RETURN has been fixed.
1.10 - Very useful feature added! Instead of having a fixed time set for
playing a track from the index file, you now have the option to have
the track played through once only, before another is loaded.
Unfortunately, it will get stuck on tracks which do not loop back to
the very first position, c'est la vie...
The bug when Coconizer tried to reclaim RMA that it already had and
returned a 'no room in RMA for trackfile' error, causing MultiPlay
to quit and then re-load itself (sometimes) has now been cured. If
by chance it does slip through the net, the new error routine will
cope better with it anyway, returning the standard MultiPlay 'no room
for this track' error.
A new filetype has been supported... &CC5 - TeqMusic, essentially the
same as &001 - STracker but usually found in Krisalis games. They are
usually played by the Teque MusicModuleX, but are played by
TrackerModule 4.09 in MultiPlay.
Future
------
ProTracker music (filetype &701) will be supported eventually, but
