----------------
- Introduction -
----------------
D2Sprite is a small utility for converting Drawfiles to Sprites.
Hopefully this version will work OK on a non-RiscPC, I think I've removed all
RiscPC specific commands, but I have no way of testing it, so if anyone has
problems please contact me at one of the addresses below.
-----------------------
- System Requirements -
-----------------------
D2Sprite requires Risc OS 3.10 or greater in order to operate correctly. In
order to create and view sprites with more than 256 colours a Risc PC is
necessary.
---------------
- Starting up -
---------------
D2Sprite is loded by double clicking on the icon !D2Sprite in the directory
viewer. It will then install itself on the icon bar.
-------
- Use -
-------
In order to convert a Drawfile to a Sprite it should be dragged to the icon
bar icon. A standard save box will then appear allowing the sprite to be
dragged to a filer window or to another application.
Configuration
-------------
By default the sprite will be the same size as the drawfile would be
displayed in the Risc OS Draw application in mode 28 (640 X 480 in 256
colours). If this is not what you require then it can be altered using the
configuration window. The configuration window is opened by clicking MENU on
the icon bar icon and choosing the "Config..." option.
Scaling:
If the Drawfile is to be scaled up or down when it is converted, this can be
achieved by changing the values in the two writeable icons eithe by entering
new values directly or by using the arrow icons next to them.
The "PPI" value displayed below these icons is the number of pixels per inch
at which the Drawfile will be rendered on the sprite.
Note: Pixels per inch is not precisely the same as dots per inch. The former
refers to dots on a printer, while the latter refers to sprite pixels.
The sprite can be printed at a different DPI level.
Number of colours
-----------------
The number of colours in the sprite has the same effect as the number of
colours in the screen mode used to view a Drawfile i.e. Drawfiles that
contain objects of colours not available in the palette will lose quality.
However using an unnecessarily large number of colours will create
unnecessarily large (i.e. memory-hungry) sprites.
