- Clapperboard registration details
- =================================
-
- I hope that you have found Clapperboard as useful as I have.
-
- Even so, everybody has differing views on what should be included in such
- a database application, and some people will have ideas for fields to store,
- queries to run and reports to produce that I did not. I couldn't think of
- everything. I'm only human. (Honest!)
-
- I started developing Clapperboard way back in October 1993, previously
- variants of my videotape data had existed on Paradox 3.1 and TEAM-UP, both
- running under DOS. It has been a long, slow process bringing Clapperboard
- to life as it is now.
-
- If you use Clapperboard on a regular basis, you should really become a
- registered user. This means that I'll do my best to fix any bugs that may
- have slipped through the testing net, and I'll consider any functional
- modifications that you may suggest.
-
- Registration does something for me too. As well as providing me with a small
- amount of money (and at £5 per copy, I hardly expect to get rich!) it
- encourages me to continue writing shareware, and shareware is a catch-22
- problem. It will only exist as long as other shareware exists. If you
- want shareware to continue, you should really register *all* such software
- THAT YOU USE. Not just mine! No shareware author minds if you have a play
- with an application for a while and then never use it again. Think of it as
- try before you buy.
-
- Anyway, lecture over.
-
- As a (small) encouragement for you to register I've made a small
- amendment to Clapperboard that limits it's use slightly.
-
- The 'Configure' window contains some system limits. These determine how
- much memory Clapperboard reserves internally, and control how many of
- certain record types you may have in the database.
-
- The registered version of Clapperboard allows you to change all or any of
- these limits. The shareware version does not.
-
-
- So, what do I get if I register?
- --------------------------------
-
- * Ability to change the system limits
-
- * Notification of new releases via email
-
- * Ability to request an upgrade to the latest version at any time upon
- sending me a disc and return postage/packing
-
- * Ability to get bugs fixed and request features to be added
-
-
- In addition, if you elect to register as a "Premier User" for £40 you will
- also benefit from the following:
-
- * A printed copy of the manual (complete with illustrations)
-
- * Priority service with bug fixes and feature additions
-
- * Access to the source code
-
- * A licence to amend the source code for your own personal use as
- you see fit. Any distribution must be via myself.
-
-
- Ok, you've convinced me, how do I register?
- -------------------------------------------
-
- Simply send a cheque for £10 for standard registration or £40 for premier
- registration to:
-
- J. S. Smith
- 35 Wincrofts Drive
- Eltham
- London
- SE9 2RG.
-
- Make cheques payable to "J. S. Smith" please.
-
- You'll also need to tell me EXACTLY what name you intend to use, as the
- protection system is keyed to your own name. In this way, I can "activate"
- your copy of Clapperboard without having to post you a disk. I can do it
- in a simple letter, by email or by phone.
-
-
- How do I contact the Author?
- ----------------------------
-
- If you have a bug that needs fixing urgently, you can let me know by writing
- to me at the above address, or by sending me electronic mail.
-
- I can be reached on Arcade BBS as user #343, or via internet as
- JSmith@arcade.demon.co.uk.
-
- If you're reporting a crash, please let me have a printout of the file
- ErrorLog from within !Clapperbd. I can't do anything without that.
-
- Enjoy using Clapperboard!
