  4. I am very aware that all the enhancements I have made to this program
  5. have been at the expense of increasing the memory requirements, both for
  6. storing the program and it's overlays, as well as the amount of system
  7. memory it requires to run.   I also know that this often precludes its use in
  8. 256K versions, or without some sort of SSD external storage.   V1.3 helped
  9. a great deal, by making some of the modules optional, but there is still a
  10. great deal of functionality and flexibility in the main `core' program, which
  11. some users will never need.
  12.  
  13. Accordingly, I have decided to offer a 'made to measure' service for those
  14. people who are short of memory.   By eliminating those functions which
  15. are not required, and permanently setting the configuration, it is possible
  16. to save an appreciable amount of memory.
  17.  
  18. Unfortunately, this will take a great deal of work to design these `one-off'
  19. programs, so I will have to ask for an extra fee, in addition to the standard
  20. registration fee, to compensate me for the time.  I believe £10 is a
  21. reasonable figure, based on the time it will take to recode and test these
  22. unique versions.

  24. To order a stripped-down version, fill in the questionaire at the end of this
  25. document and send it, along with £30, or the equivalent in your local
  26. currency, to the address given in REGISTER.TXT.   Registered users need
  27. send only £10, of course.  Production of the program could take up to a
  28. month, depending on the volume of work, but this can be speeded up by
  29. E-mailing me a copy of the questionaire to enable me to work on it in
  30. advance of receipt of the fee.

  32. To enable you to decide whether this is a worthwhile exercise, I have also
  33. included the approximate memory savings which will be obtained against
  34. each change to the program.   At present the core takes about 102 Kb and
  35. the program needs about 80 Kb free system memory to run, so the savings
  36. should be assessed against that baseline.  Also, note that, except for the
  37. number of items requested, where some system memory savings are
  38. obtainable, the savings indicated will apply only to the amount of Disc
  39. storage savings, .  If a facility takes an insignificant amount of memory,
  40. such as the `Edit Memo' feature, I have left it off the list. However, if you
  41. still want it removed, please do not hesitate to request it.

  43. Finally, please note that I cannot offer you a free upgrade facility along
  44. with this option.  If a new version is produced at a later date, I would have
  45. to charge another £10 to upgrade unique versions.
