Convert
Version 1.1
JBSoft 1993
Convert is a program which is stand-alone but will also act as a
PlugIn. It converts Text, Word, or Database files to a Notepad file.
Alternatively, it will add items to the existing Open Notepad.
There are no (known) limitations to the Text and Database other than
those inherent in the computer and OPL, but there is a file size
limitation of 8190 bytes for Word documents. Also, the Word file
should not be Password protected.
The program will automatically detect Word and Database files. If it
does not find either of these, then the file is treated as a text file
so some care should be exercised when selecting the file to convert.
If the file detected is Word formatted then a size check takes place
to make sure the file is small enough for conversion and the file is
also checked for Password protection. Blank lines are ignored in all
formats.
On start-up the program prompts for a file to convert. This may be
selected in the normal Psion way. If the file is a Database then an
additional prompt is shown to select the field to import. Any
legitimate field may be used and the selected field of the first
record of the database is shown for guidance. On changing the field
number <Enter> must be pressed to show changes. <Enter> without
changing the number allows the program to continue.
Once this initial selection is made then choice is given to use a new
or existing file for saving, or to use the existing Open Notepad. If a
new or existing file is chosen then a prompt is given for the filename
to save to. If no Extension is given then the file is given a .pad
extension. The file will be saved in the \NOTE\ directory unless a
directory is selected (using the normal Psion method).
If the file already exists then yet another prompt appears giving the
alternatives of deletion or appending. An option to specify the
priority will be displayed. At present this is formatted as the
Original Notepad priority list. The file will display line-by-line on
the screen as the conversion is made so that the progress of the
conversion can be monitored.
Please note that there are possibly bugs because I know how the
program should be used although I have tried to debug as best
possible. There is no on-line help included.
