Battery.opa is provided to be as a procedure installable onto the
system screen. Use Psion<I> to install.
Battery.opo is the Notepad Plug-In version. Use Plugins.app to install.
Battery Checker 1.0 is a routine written in Opl to enable
more intelligent checking of the life left in the batteries.
The method used is similiar to that used on your car battery.
A battery is not good just because it has the required voltage,
but is good if it maintains that voltage when performing any task
you ask it to do. If it is not able to maintain, then it is normally
considered to be bad or on its way out.
There are two routines included with BC 1.0. They are both for increasing
the load on the batteries. The file called xxx.opo is for a light load.
The file called Load.opo is for a heavy load test. The XXX.opo is a simple
loop that writes numbers to the screen. If BC shows your main batteries while
running this low load test, then the batteries are gone, and probably your
S3 is telling you so anyway. The heavy load test is more significant, in that
it copies a file to a remote computer using the 3link. This puts a much heavier
load on the batteries, and will tell you if they will last long or not.
The benefit of Battery Checker is that it shows you every movement in voltage
as the Operating system sees them. It is not tremendously intelligent since the
S3 itself is not very inteligent when it comes to reading the power in the batt's.
But it does perform the load test which is a far better way of determining the
battery condition.
