MAPPER-3a 3.2a (C) UK 1994,1995 Steve Litchfield
===============================================
Released as shareware 27 June 1995 ...
NOTE to upgraders from versions prior to v3.0. Because of enhancements to
the program for v3.x, you will NEED to *re-install* the MAPPER-3a icon.
Remove it with Psion-/ and then re-install with Psion-I etc.
NOTE to all upgraders from versions prior to 3.1. Your settings files will
have to be re-created, I'm afraid. This was unavoidable. Deletion of old
settings files will happen automatically when the program is run etc.
Registration address (send cheque for 14 pounds to):
Steve Litchfield
8 Grove Farm
Mytchett
Surrey
GU16 6AQ
Requires Psion Series 3a or Acorn PocketBook II, with approximately 100k
of free system memory to run in.
MAPPER-3a 3.2 is shareware. This does not make it a free program! Yes,
you can copy it freely to friends or acquaintances, or even upload the
original ZIP file to bulletin boards etc, but if you like it and
continue to use it, then you are honour-bound to register the program by
sending me a cheque for †14 (pounds).
Registration gets you:
a) a clear conscience that you're using paid-for software, and that
you're helping support future development of MAPPER-3a and other quality
Psion shareware software.
b) a special code that will personalise your copy of MAPPER-3a, remove
the opening and closing (and a few in-between!) shareware screens and
let you access the program more conveniently, including the ability to
add your own place names to the MAPPER-3a database and shrink or remove
the status window to give more room on-screen. No need to re-install
the software, just use the registration menu option and type in the
code!
c) A direct say in how the program develops.
*Note* the supplied MCLINK script file which may help you to install the
MAPPER-3a v3.2 modules. If you use RCOM then you'll can still use the
script, but you'll need to manually create the main Mapper-3a directory
structure. If you use PsiWin, then you'll have to play it all by ear! If
in doubt, check your mapper installation against the module listings in
the sections below ...

This text file documents the history of the program, its installation,
and some of the more technical aspects to running it. For general help in
using and understanding MAPPER-3a, please browse through the *extensive*
on-line help. This help is the only documentation of most of MAPPER-3a's
features, so work through it properly! 8-)

v3.2a fixes problem with Roads file ...
Quick summary for v3.2: (changes since v3.0)
Fixed a couple of small bugs wherein overlay icons of selected items were
not shown correctly; added Inner & Outer Hebrides etc; added STD code
support including search facilities; removed the postcode overlay menu
item, since it worked in a non-standard way; fixed numerous small
niggling buggettes; added a few roads (including M10/A414/A13/A130);
Quick summary for v3.0: (changes since v2.9)
Added a multiple settings file facility whereby you can store multiple
MAPPER-3a setups on your machine (stored in \OPD\ as .MSF - Mapper
Settings Format - files), selecting them from the system screen under
the icon or from within the program; currently selected towns or items
are now stored in the settings file, for your convenience; some of the
functions have been separated out into separate OVL modules, because of
limitations in Psion OPL; Revised Psion-key system to provide apt
shift-Psion-type key presses; Added a comprehensive route logging system
for tracking distance and time calculations done, with a spreadsheet
(.SPR) export module; Updated overlays for Airfields, Compuserve nodes,
Packet radio stations, Ski slopes and several others; another dozen or so
town plans added; added a short WRD format tutorial of how to use
MAPPER-3a to best effect;

This is MAPPER-3a 3.2, released as shareware for the Psion 3a in
June 1995. All rights reserved, and copyrights, including the
database files and their format, where appropriate (see listings below).
MAPPER-3a is a Geographical Information System (GIS) with a friendly
interface .....
Memory requirements
-------------------
MAPPER-3a 3.2 needs approximately 100k of system memory while running. If
you try to start it with less than this amount available, it will
hopefully warn you and exit.
Components and Installation.
----------------------------
MAPPER-3a v3.2 comprises three separate ZIP files, for convenience in
downloading and unzipping; MAPA32.ZIP (containing this file and the main
program files), MAPB32.ZIP (containing the MP3 item and MP4 vector
overlays), and MAPC32.ZIP (containing the town plan schematics).
Note that an example MCLINK script file is included, called
INSTALL.SCR, which you may wish to customise for yourself and use it to
save yourself some typing. To use it, start MCLINK and type @INSTALL.SCR
The script assumes that all three MAPPER-3a ZIP files have been unzipped
into the current directory. If you use RCOM, then the script will still
work, but you'll have to manually create the appropriate directories on
your Psion's disk etc. If you use PsiWin, then you're definitely going
to have to do it manually, but at least you can do it all with 'drag and
drop'!!
NOTE to upgraders from version 2.9 and before: Because of enhancements to
the program for v3.x, you will NEED to *re-install* the MAPPER-3a icon.
Remove it with Psion-/ and then re-install with Psion-I etc.
{Inside the three ZIPs are the following files, file sizes quoted to help
you decide on whether to install certain overlays etc. Contributor
information also included where known or appropriate}
MAPPER3A.TXT - this file!

on any Psion drive, and install onto your system screen
with Psion-I. Size - 46k (C) Steve Litchfield
plus essential support files, to be placed in a \APP\MAPPER3A\
subdirectory on the same disk:
