Requests to the MailList Robot are case-insensitive and should be sent in
the Subject: of the message. Except for one or two commands the MailList
^^^^^^^^
Robot will totally ignore the body of the message.
The following requests are available for (potential) subscribers to a list
on this host:
USER requests
=============
HELP Get this information.
SIGNON <list> Subscribe to a list.
SIGNOFF <list> Unsubscribe from a list.
BOUNCE Bounce the message, headers intact.
LISTS Get an overview of the lists served by this
host.
HOSTS Get an overview of all known hosts that
run MailList.
INFO <list> Sends general information about the list.
GET <keyword> Performs the same action as SEND <keyword>.
SEND index Send an index of the files available from
the mail-server.
SEND <file> [<size>] Send the <file>. Where <file> is the name of
the file as it appears in the index.
The optional <size> is the maximum size in
kB of separate messages. This allows you to
receive large files in several chuncks
spread over several mails. This is useful if
a gateway or host between you and the robot
does not accept messages bigger than a
certain length. If you're not sure a size of
100 will usually work. To find out the
optimum you have to do some experimenting
yourself.
Additionally, if you are a list-owner (of a list on this host) you can use
the following requests:
LISTOWNER requests
==================
ADD <list> <user> Manually add a user to the list.
REMOVE <list> <user> Manually remove a user from the list.
CHARTER <list> The body of the message should contain a
short description and the charter of the
list.
APPROVE <list> <#> Approves an article for distribution when
the list is moderated with:
DEFINE <list> MODERATOR
DEFINE <list> <option>
<option>
DIGEST|NODIGEST Select whether to distibute digests or
individual messages.
ARCHIVE|NOARCHIVE Select whether to keep an archive of
distributed messages.
*** Currently not implemented ***
ONEWAY|TWOWAY Select whether to distribute messages from
subscribers or not.
*** Currently not implemented ***
MAILFEED|NEWSFEED <group> Select whether to distribute a mailfeed from
the subscribers or a newsfeed from the
newsgroup <group>
PUBLIC|PRIVATE Select whether a list is public or private.
On private lists subscriptions need to be
approved by the list-owner.
*** Currently not implemented ***
MODERATOR|NOMODERATOR Select whether a list is moderated or not.
On a moderated list posted articles need to
be approved by the moderator before they are
distributed.
Default: NODIGEST, NOARCHIVE, TWOWAY, MAILFEED, PUBLIC, NOMODERATOR
Additionally, if you are the host-owner of this host. That is, if you
own/maintain the system on which !MailList is running then you have the
following requests at your disposal:
HOSTOWNER requests
==================
note: these requests must be sent from the address root@<host> or its
defined alias where <host> is the address of the machine on which !MailList
is running.
CREATE <list> Create a mailing-list on the <host>
DELETE <list> Remove a mailing-list from the <host>
OWNER <list> <user> Define the address of the list-owner
REGISTER Register the host as a MailList host at
the "Home of the MailList Robot". This
keeps you informed of new developments
and upgrades of the software.
UNREGISTER Un-register the host as a MailList host.
(But you don't wanna do that! :-D)
SET <keyword> [<value>] Configure MailList to your personal taste.
<keyword>
BATCH|NOBATCH Configures the software to either process
mail as it arrives (NOBATCH) or process it
at a given time (BATCH). In the latter case
you have to start !MailList eg. using
!Alarm.
DELETE|NODELETE Whether or not to remove distribution
duplicates of messages.
DIGESTSIZE <value> in kB, sets the maximumsize to which
a digest may grow before it is sent.
DIGESTAGE <value> in days, sets the maximum age of a

FSEXCLUDE <value> gives a list of illegal characters
used in file/pathnames with the SEND
request.
MAXBCC <value> is the maximum number of addresses
in the Bcc: header.
ROOT <value> is the name of a local user which
is to be used as an alias for your root.
QUOTA <value> in kB. The maximum amount of data
one person may request from the MailServer
using SEND.
