About this release
============================================================================
In response to increasing demand from our customer base for software to
enable connection to The Internet etc., and coincident with the launch of our
range of new networking products, the Network Group at Acorn Computers have
arranged to make available a release of Acorn's implementation of the TCP/IP
protocol stack : this is subject to the licence conditions detailed in the
documentation accompanying the software.
It consists of two archives ('Spark File' type produced with David Pilling's
!SparkFS) containing software and related documentation, both software items
being compliant with the DCI 4 specification, as used in all new Acorn AUN
products :-
1) the 'InterNet' archive, which contains the TCP/IP protocol stack itself.
2) the 'BootNet' archive, which contains the AUN protocol stack.
This release does not include the client tools which form a part of the
'Acorn TCP/IP Protocol Suite (Release 2)' product, nor does it include some
of the more advanced components of the networking software which are present
in the above product.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our colleagues who
have made this possible, especially Technical Publications, the Legal
Department and senior management, and the third party developers for their
permission to include the various hardware drivers and other utilities that
they have supplied; last, but by no means least, special thanks to the
members of the Network Software Development team.
Acorn Computers Ltd. reserves the right to revise or withdraw this software
release at any time, without prior notice.
For details on the ANT network drivers (Ether3-16, Ether3-8 and EtherB) and
ANT's showstat utility, please see the file "ReadMe-ANT" in this directory.
The drivers and showstat have, for your convenience, been placed in the
appropriate directories in the !Internet and !BootNet application archives.
