Hi all,
Found enclosed is the Archimedes port of NetHack 3.1.3 which I have
been working on for some time. For people who do not know what this is then
its a character based adventure game on the D & D vein. NetHack originated
on Unix systems years ago when text terminals where common, not X terminals
as today. However, NetHack has moved on very much since then in size and
complexity, but it still retains the character graphics of its original
incarnations.
In its current state it occupies approximately 1 Meg of disc space.
This I am afraid precludes its use on floppy based systems. In addition
when running it requires a wimpslot of about 1.4 Meg. So this precludes its
use on 1 Meg machines, SORRY!!! The previous version was a lot smaller and
so could be run on such systems but its got so big now in version 3.1.3.
The version (port) presented here contains all the Unix facilities
except the obviously impossible ones like mail delivery, multiplayer
playgrounds, etc. Everything else is activated, sinks, Keystone Kops, etc.
Things I would like to include but have not had the time to yet is a
wimp frontend to launch the program from. This would NOT make NetHack
multitasking but would provide a way to set, save, recall user defined
options like character name, dog name, etc. If anyone has any wants for
this please do e-mail me with suggestions (address below) so that when I
get time I can implement it. Currently you will have to modify the !Run
file to change the options.
I have made my best efforts to bring a good port of NetHack to YOU in
a stable working state. It has been on beta test to a number of people and
I would like to sincerely thank all my beta testers * THANKS *. If you do
find any bugs please e-mail me (address below). Also thanks to Huw Rogers
for his great unixLib and help he gave me.
Have fun and happy NetHack'ing. A
