-- Foreword ---------------------------------------------------------------
Don't complain about how awful this game is, I know it's useless. I know
it's in compiled BASIC, do you honestly think I could be bothered to do THIS
in ARM? And don't start on about loading the tune into the RMA, ABC chucks a
severe wobbly if I try it in application space :-(
-- Background -------------------------------------------------------------
04:00hrs, 24th January 2195. Intelligence report.
20 small unidentified craft observed over moon-base 12 performing manoevres
strongly suggestive of offensive reconnaisance.
09:15hrs, 26th January 2195. Intelligence report.
Unknown number of small, unidentified craft picked up on several short-range
telescopes, apparently stationary, 100,000 miles outside Mars' orbit.
10:05hrs, 27th January 2195. Intelligence report.
Previously observed craft convergent on Mars.
11:40hrs, 27th January 2195. SOS Message.
Mars base 1 to Earth, SOS. We are under attack! SOS! SOS! Request immediate
support, repeat, IMMEDIATE support.
11:45hrs, 27th January 2195. Intelligence report.
No further communication received from Mars. Inhabitants presumed dead.
17:20hrs, 27th January 2195. Intelligence report.
Short-range telescope data indicates previously observed craft convergent on
Earth or Moon.
17:30hrs, 27th January 2195. Internal Memorandum.
Oh $h1t!
-- System Requirements ----------------------------------------------------
You need a few things to get this going:
• Risc OS 2.00 or later (well, I presume it works on RO2);
• A !System folder containing the ABCLibrary module;
• Some RAM. About 400K, I think. Can't be more specific, I'm afraid. I know
how much I TOLD it to take, but it seems to need more for some reason.
-- Brief ------------------------------------------------------------------
"As you know, we're all in iminent danger of being zapped to buggely here.
Now, our only hope is to use the Eath-Mars teleport facility, and sneak up
behind them. Your fighters are equipped with some really nifty lasers, which
the boffins tell me are easily the best they've so far come up with, and
they should be able to dispense with anything. Oh, the only problem is that
all the power plants on Mars are down, and the teleporter's batteries are
only good for a single craft, one-way only. But that doesn't matter, as you
can just come from the Mars end, and dispose of the little blighters on your
way back, and dock with Orbital-16 in time for Champagne and caviarre. Now,
any volunteers?"
-- Instructions -----------------------------------------------------------
The controls are:
function keyboard mouse
--------------------------------------
Fire: Return Select
Left: Z (move left)
Right: X (move right)
Up: " (move up)
Down: ? (guess...)
Pause: P or F1 P or F1
All you need to do is zap the alien droid things, and not smash into them
yourself. Got that?
-- Addendum ---------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, and before you go, I'm informed that there's a slightly larger, armed
whatsit in the lead. Still, since you're taking them on from the behind,
you'll get to that one last. Well, good luck."
-- Licence ----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------- The game "Battle-Droids" is FREEWARE --
Copy me freely and pass me around,
On zillions of systems I long to be found!
Distribute me in full, but never in part,
Don't make any changes (or you'll break my heart!)
Don't charge too much, give value for money,
(I'm telling you now that it just isn't funny
to rip people off, give them a bad deal,
Remember this -- just how would YOU feel?)
That this actually works, I give no guarantee,
(After all just what have you given to ME?)
For damage or loss, I won't be to blame,
This is (c) Colin McEwan (yup, that's my name).

Thanks to Phoenix from Quantum for the QTM module (the music player).
"EXPLORM" and "Explosion" were borrowed fom PD games (which ones, I cannot
remember), my thanks go go their authors.
"Tune" was quite probably nicked from someone's Amiga, but I was given it in
good faith, and will accept no responsibility whatsoever for it. If you
don't like it, please feel free to substitue it with one from your own
collection, so long as it's a 4-track one.
BTW, this is compiled with ABC from Dabs Press. Don't laugh, eh?
-- Afterthought -----------------------------------------------------------
"No, wait!!! it might be useful for you to know: The... people who designed
these nasty little droids would seem to have eyes which are sensitive to
vastly different wavelengths of light than ours... Either that or they have
absolutely no colour co-ordination. Oh, and shut the door on your way out,
I can't stand a draught when I'm playing Space Invaders."
-- Versions ---------------------------------------------------------------
1.00 (29 Jan 1995)
The first release version.
1.01 (18 Feb 1995)
Changed music playing system to Que The Music tracker module, now maybe
it'll work on a Risc PC. Also, squished the sound samples to save a bit of
space (not much, though). Made music 'spin' in stereo on title screen, and
sounds are now
