In order to get this program working it must be HARD DISC installed. If you haven't got a hard
disc, give up now and jump up and down, since the program is of no use to you!
Right, now we've got rid of the plebs........
Run the split program and drag to your wanted location. Unsplit the resulting PackDir
file.
BEFORE RUNNING ensure a suitable amount of memory is allocated to your FREE slot.
Technical
---------
The program uses dynamic memory management, and so adjusts its use of memory depending on
what you are displaying. When dormant the Run Time occupies between 304-600k of RAM, depending
on what variables and actions are being stored.
The program can be made to drop to this low memory state by closing the control/view windows and any examine windows that are open; but first save your loaction from the control window menu!
To resart the program should be reinited from the icon bar and position reloaded.
The program can use up to 1890k of RAM, when you get going, and so for some users the
!Freeze program should be used to 'cold boot' the program. This will result in all the
system sprites and the font cache being taken away. The module area will be RMCleared
and any backdrop removed. This program should only be needed on 2MB machines. It might not
be needed at all.
The plot
--------
A person has been murdered. Their body now lies hidden in the snowy hills surrounding an old
country house (they are over the hills and far away, hence O'er Far, yes I know it's lame,
but I challenge someone to come up with something else for a title!-answers on a postcard
- I'll send a disc of PD for the best 3.). You must search the house to find the murder weapon,
the murder room, the murderer. Beware! Someone else will die {or you even!}, if you make too
many wrong moves or ask wrong questions.
{but don't be too quick about accusing, or else you'll not enjoy it}.
The controls
------------
At the options window, clicking on the disc icon loads a saved game and clicking on the
arrow starts a new game.
To save your game, click MENU over a control window and go to the SAVE option.
To restore this location YOU MUST click on the disc in the options window.
DO NOT continue by clicking on START (the arrow)
single clicking with SELECT performs actions, such as go to, look at, choose.
single clicking with MENU performs the action eat &/or drink, or when in a control
window a RISC-OS choice menu is opened.
There are two types of window in O'er Far the Control and the view.
The control window operates when you are inside the house, otherwise direction arrows appear
in the view window.
TO question someone either click on the MAGNIFYING glass or on the person themselves (they'll be in the view window).
To GO somewhere click on the direction arrow, or picture, stairs for example. When you go
to somewhere else, the view window will close. A new control an view set of windows will open after around 1 second.
Inside view-windows objects can be looked at closely by clicking select on them. If there is
nothing of any interest there, no window or a general brief description, such as 'kitchen thing'
will appear. Otherwise something else will happen.......... TRY IT AND SEE
Once you have tried all this lot, you'll get the idea.
