  4. Okay folks! Here is the latest version of NewsFlash, now written in 100%
  5. assembler!! :-)
  6.  
  7. This should be in a ready to go state, just unarchive it and run it.

  9. A demo BBS is included, though not a very impressive one. It is the BBS I use
  10. for testing NF, but tidied up a tiny but, so don't let it put you off. NF is
  11. capabable of handling much nicer looking BBS's.

  13. Everything you see in the demo is written in script! (except the message
  14. editors). Therefore, some parts may look a bit messy (like the message scan
  15. at the beginning). These can be changed by altering the scripts, but you need
  16. quite a good understanding of the script language.

  18. NewsFlash's scripts are compiled so that they will run fast enough, as pretty
  19. much all of the essential parts to the BBS are in script. However, NF will
  20. now run very simple uncompiled scripts to allow sysops to make changes to
  21. things like the bulletins or whatever, without having to recompile
  22. everything.

  24. There are still quite a few problems/bugs with this version but it should be
  25. quite stable. I have rushed to try and get this version finished for today.

  30. complicated (but versatile! :-) )

  32. Alex Howarth is running QuijaBoard over the summer holidays so you can
  33. see just what NF is capable of. It is online now from 10pm to 8am on 01363

  36. I would include a list of improvements I am intending to make but I can never
  37. remember them (not good huh? :-) ).. but..err ..if you have any request or
  38. ideas please contact me..

  40. There are no real docs just yet.. I'm too busy coding/debugging (the latter
  41. mostly :-( ).. There is however, the !Help file in the compiler which gives a
  42. brief description of the commands, and of course you have the demo to look
  43. at! :-)

  45. The background mode which I having boasting about is..err..not..err..quite
  46. ready yet! :-) <blush> .. You can have a quick test though... but no snoops
  47. or local logons are available. File transfers will not start properly either
  48. but this is only a very small problem. It may be a little unstable but it is
  49. still in an early state..
