!Help file for !NewsFlash
=========================
Okay folks! Here is the latest version of NewsFlash, now written in 100%
assembler!! :-)
This should be in a ready to go state, just unarchive it and run it.
A demo BBS is included, though not a very impressive one. It is the BBS I use
for testing NF, but tidied up a tiny but, so don't let it put you off. NF is
capabable of handling much nicer looking BBS's.
Everything you see in the demo is written in script! (except the message
editors). Therefore, some parts may look a bit messy (like the message scan
at the beginning). These can be changed by altering the scripts, but you need
quite a good understanding of the script language.
NewsFlash's scripts are compiled so that they will run fast enough, as pretty
much all of the essential parts to the BBS are in script. However, NF will
now run very simple uncompiled scripts to allow sysops to make changes to
things like the bulletins or whatever, without having to recompile
everything.
There are still quite a few problems/bugs with this version but it should be
quite stable. I have rushed to try and get this version finished for today.
If anyone is interested in using NF I would be most pleased! :-)
I can help you with any problems you may have, as the script can be quite
complicated (but versatile! :-) )
Alex Howarth is running QuijaBoard over the summer holidays so you can
see just what NF is capable of. It is online now from 10pm to 8am on 01363
82303.
I would include a list of improvements I am intending to make but I can never
remember them (not good huh? :-) ).. but..err ..if you have any request or
ideas please contact me..
There are no real docs just yet.. I'm too busy coding/debugging (the latter
mostly :-( ).. There is however, the !Help file in the compiler which gives a
brief description of the commands, and of course you have the demo to look
at! :-)
The background mode which I having boasting about is..err..not..err..quite
ready yet! :-) <blush> .. You can have a quick test though... but no snoops
or local logons are available. File transfers will not start properly either
but this is only a very small problem. It may be a little unstable but it is
still in an early state..
Have fun!
