  20. The GNU CDROM contains over 75 software packages for your UNIX and MSDOS
  21. computer from the GNU software archives at prep.ai.mit.edu.  You get
  22. precompiled binaries for SunOS 4.1.4 and Solaris 2.5.1, selected packages for
  23. MSDOS, and hundreds of megabytes of source code.  This CDROM does <B>not</B>
  24. have anything for Solaris x86.

  26. You can use most of the software ready-to-run from the disc and save disk
  27. space and compiling time.  GNU utilities pride themselves on portability and
  28. you'll meet them wherever you go.  Once you know these tools, you'll be
  29. comfortable in any UNIX environment.

  31. Emacs is the industry standard text editor.  You get two versions, 19.30 and
  32. 19.34b, both of which will increase your programming speed with its awareness
  33. of programming languages.  As a C developer, you'll use the GCC C and C++
  34. compiler (2.7.2.2), the C++ library (2.7.2), the debugger gdb (4.15.1), and
  35. many other tools.  For fun, try GNU chess (4.0.pl77), and GNU go (1.2).

  37. MSDOS users get the DJGPP suite, featuring a great 32-bit C & C++ compiler (v.
  38. 2.7.2.1).  You also get libraries for GRX 2.0 Graphics Library, SWORD
  39. Windowing System, task switching, GDB debugger (v. 4.16), make (v. 3.75), and
  40. sed (v. 1.18).  Complete sources to libraries and compilers are included.

  43. packages that you can apply to an existing setup to bring it up to the current
  44. release.  You won't lose any customizations you have made!
