- ------------------------------------------------------------------ DESCRIPTION
- The GNU CDROM contains over 75 software packages for your UNIX and MSDOS
- computer from the GNU software archives at prep.ai.mit.edu. You get
- precompiled binaries for SunOS 4.1.4 and Solaris 2.5.1, selected packages for
- MSDOS, and hundreds of megabytes of source code. This CDROM does not
- have anything for Solaris x86.
-
- You can use most of the software ready-to-run from the disc and save disk
- space and compiling time. GNU utilities pride themselves on portability and
- you'll meet them wherever you go. Once you know these tools, you'll be
- comfortable in any UNIX environment.
-
- Emacs is the industry standard text editor. You get two versions, 19.30 and
- 19.34b, both of which will increase your programming speed with its awareness
- of programming languages. As a C developer, you'll use the GCC C and C++
- compiler (2.7.2.2), the C++ library (2.7.2), the debugger gdb (4.15.1), and
- many other tools. For fun, try GNU chess (4.0.pl77), and GNU go (1.2).
-
- MSDOS users get the DJGPP suite, featuring a great 32-bit C & C++ compiler (v.
- 2.7.2.1). You also get libraries for GRX 2.0 Graphics Library, SWORD
- Windowing System, task switching, GDB debugger (v. 4.16), make (v. 3.75), and
- sed (v. 1.18). Complete sources to libraries and compilers are included.
-
- Everything comes with source and documentation. You get patches for larger
- packages that you can apply to an existing setup to bring it up to the current
- release. You won't lose any customizations you have made!
-
- With the GNU CDROM, you can bring any barebones system up to a professional
- working environment.
