Sachi Yamabe is an artist born in Burnaby, British Columbia. She studied in the Visual Arts Programme at Malaspina College, Nanaimo, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria in 1987 and a Masters of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, in 1989.
Scope and content
The collection consists of a driftwood stick collected by Sachi Yamabe from a beach near Brighton Pool, and five manuscript notes addressed to Sachi Yamabe by her friends referring to her drawings.
Note
The artist started collecting sticks in 1992 and uses them for studies, and for source material for drawings. Some sticks were burnt and the remaining charcoal was used to produce drawings. The artist continues to collect sticks for her drawings.
