Margaret Hsu is an artist born in 1970 in Taipei, Taiwan. She her practice involves ceramics and Internet web page design. From 1990-1994 she studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, where she received a Diploma in studio art.
Scope and content
The collection consists of two porcelain teapots, housed in annotated boxes, and a porcelain cup, housed in an annotated box, as well as an artist statement, two photocopies of photographic images of the artists work, and four glaze test sheets with affixed ceramic samples.
Note
The artist stated the following: "Being a relatively new immigrant, I feel that I am caught in between two cultures and do not know which one I really belong to. Through my work, using the Dragon as my self portrait, flying and floating between clouds and waves, heaven and earth, searching endlessly for something, someone... By letting my fingers express my heart through clay, I am trying to sort out my feelings, finding my self-identity, and a place to call my own."
