Dwight Atkinson is an iconographer, born in St. Boniface, Manitoba in 1954, specializing in public art, computer illustration and examination of the human soul through visual imagery. In 1975 he received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Manitoba, and in 1978, a Master of Architecture degree from the same university; in 1982 he completed architectural internship required to join the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and pursued further study in 1983 at the University of British Columbia, in the Continuing Education "Certified Professional" Program, studying building code analysis.
Scope and content
The work consists of "The Atkinson Iconography Studio 'Offend-O-Matic' Commentary Experiential Device," 1997, composed of graphic material, pipe clamps, plastic plumbing piping, in a cylindrical form 12.5 x 30 cm, and intended by the artist to address as subject matter Canadian social military humour commentary with provision for self censorship.
