Rae Mate is a painter and art teacher born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1948. She studied at the then Emily Carr College of Art and Design, receiving a Diploma in Painting in 1986, after studies in the Professional Development Program at Simon Fraser University in 1971 and at the University of British Columbia, where she received a B.A. in English in 1970.
Scope and content
The collection consists of two photograph albums containing photoprints of the artist's paintings. These works include oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, board and paper. The work spans the period from 1983 to 1997. The albums are arranged into groups according to subject matter. The categories are labelled by the artist as: Still Life, Women, Children, Crocodile Creatures and Dolls. There are also copies of pen and ink drawings, dated 1997, produced to illustrate a book to be published in autumn, 1997.
