This disk contains METZ Task Manager. It is a comprehensive, yet easily understood replacement for the Microsoft Task List application. Task Manager provides the same basic functionality as the Microsoft Task List app, as well as the ability to quickly run programs and files, and a customizable Tools menu. Additional Task Manager features include a fully customizable screen display blanker (screen saver), Windows arrangement functions, directory tree display, file finder, point-and-shoot file manager, and system memory and disk space display. This disk contains Back-Menu. It is a program that allows you to define a pop-up menu on the Windows 3.0 background and use it to quickly run applications and tools. The idea came from using X-Windows and Sunview, where the user has a root menu that can be configured. It allows you to describe a set of actions and associate command lines with them. To bring up the menu simply click with the right mouse button on the Windows desktop. This will bring up the description list. Selecting a description will cause the appropriate command line to be executed. There are three fixed options in the menu. Firstly 'Reload Menu From File', which makes Back-Menu read its configuration file again to update the menu contents. Secondly 'Remove Back-Menu' which un-installs the program. Thirdly 'Exit Windows', which safely exits from Windows back to DOS.

This utility does no checking of the application being marked, except to verify that it is a Windows application. There are two flags in the header of a Windows executable file (called the "new executable format"). The memory flag indicates that the application makes clean use of memory, thus enabling it to run under Windows 3.0 in protected mode. The font flag indicates whether the application can handle the proportional system font in Windows 3.0. Mark30 allows you to set and unset both of these flags. Many Windows 2.x application work fine under Windows 3.0, but many do not. If you have a Windows 2.x application that works under Windows 3.0, and you are tired of the annoying warning message Windows 3.0 gives you each time you run your program, Mark30 will save you.

And finally, for those with specialized needs Paint Shop can be used as a screen capture utility. This program will convert a picture file format to a different format. PAINT SHOP will convert these picture file formats: BMP, PCX, GIF, IMG, MAC, PIC RLE, TIFF and WPG. As an example, you can use Paint Shop to open a TIFF file. Dither the picture to black and white. Mark off the area of the picture to be used, copy that area to the clipboard. Then paste the picture into Microsoft's Write. Use Write to put the text into you document and then print the document.

Since Easel is a Windows application, it features a standard Windows graphic user interface with pull-down menus, scroll bars, dialog boxes and multiple instance support. In addition to full support for use with a mouse, accelerator keys are provided to facilitate quick use by keyboard for experienced users. A mouse is currently required in order to select regions of pictures for copying to the clipboard, but is otherwise not required. (File display and format conversions can be done using only keyboard commands.) If you have Microsoft Excel, Easel can be used in conjunction with it to display pictures related to records in an Excel database. Current picture formats supported by Easel include:

Easel also allows you to "stretch" or "shrink" pictures from one size to another.
