  10. This collection of archive utilities can make you the tightest, most    
  11. effective archiver on the block.                                        
  12.                                                                         
  13. LHARC compresses more tightly than other compression                    
  14. programs.  It takes a little longer -- but there are times when space is
  15. more important than speed.                                              
  16.                                                                         
  17. 2LZH converts ARC, PKARC, and ZIP files to LHARC format.  LHDIR is a    
  18. companion program to view and identify compressed LHARC files and self- 
  19. extracting LHARC.                                                       
  20.                                                                         
  21. And if LHARC isn't all you need, the utility MAD (Mike's Archive        
  22. Directory) can show you the contents of every popular archive-type      
  23. available and their self-extracting executable (SFX) files.  MAD        
  24. currently supports ARC, PAK, ZIP, ZOO, LZS, DWC and LZH archives and all
  25. self-extracting .COM and .EXE files created by SEA ARC, PK-ARC, PAK, PK-
  26. ZIP, SEZ (zoo), LARC (lzs), DWC and LHARC (lzh).

  28. ZIPNOTE rounds out the collection; it lets you attach comments to ZIP   
  29. files. The utility is especially useful for BBS sysops who want to mark 
  30. ZIP files for free advertising.  ZIPNOTE's flexibility allows a comment 
  31. to be typed from the keyboard, copied from an existing text file, or    
  32. stored in a configuration file.

  38. If you need more hard drive or floppy disk space (and who doesn't?),    
  39. TINYPROG could be your disk space miser.  TINYPROG compresses .EXE and  
  40. .COM program files by as much as 30%.  Compress the file once and forget
  41. about it.  When you run the compressed file, it decompresses and starts 
  42. right up.  TINYPROG has command line option features for the programmer 
  43. in all of us, like the /u option that allows you to put a personal      
  44. message at the beginning of your favorite program. As a safety feature, 
  45. TINYPROG makes a backup copy of your original .EXE or .COM file.

  51. CNVRT automates the process of converting archived files from one       
  52. archiving method to another.  CNVRT supports ARC, ZIP, LZH, and ZOO     
  53. archiving methods.

  55. CNVRT can operate in two different modes.  In the Command Line mode,    
  56. convert a single file or all files in a directory from one archiving    
  57. method to another.  In the Pick List mode, select files to be converted 
  58. from a list by marking them.                                            
  59.                                                                         
  60. CNVRT manages the conversion process, but does not actually perform     
  61. unarchiving or rearchiving functions.  CNVRT follows the same process   
  62. you would be likely to use to accomplish the same task manually.  For   
  63. example, if you want to convert an ARC file to an LZH file, CNVRT       
  64. creates a temporary directory, invokes PKXARC.EXE to unarchive the file 
  65. to the temporary directory, invokes LHARC.EXE to rearchive the file,    
  66. copies the new LZH file back to the original directory, and finally     
  67. erases the original ARC file and removes the temporary directory.  CNVRT
  68. does not erase the original ARC file until it has confirmed that the new
  69. LZH file has been created and copied to the original directory.

  72. PKARC.EXE, PKZIP.EXE, PKXARC.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, PAK.EXE, LHARC.EXE, and
