1. Introduction
The On-Line Sales Door is a product of many hours of work. It has been designed
to make the use of PCBoard, and other third party programs, to provide an easy
and efficient means of online sales and registrations.
Online Sales has been designed to allow users access to a database
of items you have for sale on you BBS. This is not a real database but
is only a text file that is extracted from a database or spreadsheet. I
use a Spread Sheet to enter all my Items and calculate the Prices. It
is quite easy to dump the file to text from there. Outlined below are
the rules for setting up the text file. I have included a sample of the
text file for you to use.
You can also set them up in categories, search on keywords, scroll through
the whole database, flag items for processing, Place orders online,
calculate taxes & freight, specify defaults for everything!!!!!
This door can provide you with many other options and is very flexible. The fact
that it is flexible brings along a fair number of problems in its self. These
docs are an attempt to clear up any problems you may run into.
Please keep in mind this is a rough take of the docs. Anyone needing more
information can contact our board at (416)444-7358 and enter conference 17.
Leave a message there and I will try to assist you as best as I can.

This function is absolutely essential to the proper opration of the Sales Door.
4.5 Define Language File
This section will allow you to create language specific prompts for the Sales
door. The Sales Door will read the language selected in PCBoard and use that
default. For example: If Joe Blow selected French in PCBoard, PCBoard would
use PCBTEXT.FRE. The Sales Door will detect this and will look for a file
named SALESTXT.FRE in the directory it lives in. If it does not exist it will
default to SALESTXT.
Upon Selecting option 4 from the main menu you will be presented with the
following screen:
╔══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

To Edit/Create/Convert a SALESTXT file simply type in the name and hit enter.
If the file does not exist the system will ask you if you wish to create it, if
it does exist it will pull up the contents of that file. If the file you typed
in exists and is an older version it will convert it to the proper version.
You will then see the following screen:

You will see 2 lines like those above. The top line is the original prompt and
the second line can be edited to reflect the change you wish to implement.
When you have modified the prompts to your satisfaction hit <ESC> and the file
will be saved with the new prompts.
5. Database Layout
THE DATABASE FILE (SALES.BBS)
------------------
This file Must be setup in a specific order. I have included a sample
SALES.BBS file for you to look at. The following are the rules.
1) The very first line of the SALES.BBS file must be blank.
2) They very last line of the SALES.BBS file must be ~~~, this
signifies the end of the file to the program.
3) There must be a blank line between categories followed by a heading
line. The heading line must be followed by an underline.
4) The Category Title can be no longer than 20 Characters.
5) The Item description must be no more than 35 characters long. You can use
blanks to fill in the rest of the line. You can also have an additional
14 description lines. Keep the description lines in the same columns as
the first description line.
Example
Itemno Description Price Weight
10 First Description Line 11111.11 888888
Second Description Line
.
.
.
.
Fourteenth Description Line
6) The price must be no more than 10 characters long.
7) Weight is up to 6 characters (I think?). Test it and let me know.
Below is an example. When you run option 3 from the main setup menu against
this file it will create 7 category, 26 SALESNDX.? indexes, and 11
ITEMNO?.NDX files. The category files will be named CAT1.BBS .... CATn.BBS
according to the way they appear in the database. The SALESNDX.? files will
be named SALESNDX.A ... SALESNDX.Z. These files are for faster keyword
searches. The ITEMNO?.NDX files will be named ITEMNO.NDX and
ITEMNO0.NDX ... ITEMNO9.NDX. These file are faster checking of item numbers
for the order placement and flagging options.
The WGT entry is the weight for the freight calculation. This is the amount of
extra poundage to apply against the order when calculating the freight charges
for the order.
Please make sure you create the database exactly as below and in the example.

6. Membership Registrations Database.
The membership registration portion of this program will allow
users to be automatically upgraded when applying for a membership.
The system will present the user with a listing of memberships and
allow the user to choose the membership they wish.
Upon selecting the membership, the system will check the upgrade
security against the users current security. If the system finds
the current security is higher or equal to the memberships security
selected, it will issue an error message to the user.
If the users security is lower than the membership selected the system
will ask the user if they wishe to apply using a credit card. The credit
cards available on your system will be listed. If the answers is 'N' the
user will be returned to the main menu. If 'Y' they will be prompted for
a credit card number. If a valid credit card number and expiration is
entered then the system will log the registration to the logfile specified
in the configuration file and automatically upgrade the users access.
This way the user will have a new access level when he leaves the door.
The following is the file layout for the memberships registration
file:
Legend Characters Description
A 1 - 10 Item Number
B 11 - 43 Item Description
C 44 - 54 Membership price
D 55 Space
E 56 - 58 Security Level to upgrade user to upon Credit Card

7. TXT2MSG Rules
The only rule for the use of TXT2MSG to import invoices and memberships is that
the file TXT2MSG.EXE must be in the current directory or on the path. Unzip
the TXT2MSG.ZIP file.
8. Interfacing with Fax doors
Sparkys Fax Door
To use Sparkys Fax Door simply run General Setup Features 2, enter a
'Y' and fill in the phone number below. Specify the conference you
are using as the FAX Gateway above and save the setup.
The Sales Door will now place all invoices in that conference with
addressed to FAX GATEWAY and 'TO: XXX-XXXX' on the first line. When
your event runs the invoices will be faxed.
Gerrys Fax Door
To use Gerrys Fax Door simply run General Setup Features 2, enter a
'Y' and fill in the phone number below. Specify the conference you
are using as the FAX conference above and save the setup.
The Sales Door will now place all invoices in that conference with
addressed to FAX and 'XXX-XXXX' on the first line. When your event
runs the invoices will be faxed.
9. RUNNING ONLINE SALES LOCALLY
If the door is run from within a BBS you will not need any extra commands
in your batch file. If it is run from the command line or outside of a
BBS you will have to add the command LOCAL.
You should also work best if you enter PCBoard and shell to DOS. Then
copy your PCBoard.sys & PCBoard.dat to a destination of your choice.
After doing so replace 'C:\PCB' below with the path to the copies of
PCBoard.sys and PCBoard.dat.
ie: SALES SALES.CFG C:\PCB LOCAL
10. INVOCATION BATCH FILE
Each door program which runs under PCBoard must have a
batch file associated with it which carries out the necessary
housekeeping tasks for PCBoard. This file changes directory
areas if necessary, invokes the program and passes necessary
parameters, and returns the user to PCBoard when the door
function is completed. An example invocation batch file is
included.

14. Obtaining a Demo Key
A one month DEMO Key is available by calling The Support Group and
downloading the key. Just enter the Sales Door from the doors menu
and use option C.
The type of key you are eligible for will be determined when you enter
the door. If you are a registered user of The On-Line Sales Door a
registered key will be generated. If you are here to receive a Demo
Key the system will automatically generate that key for you.
If you are here for a Demo Key a 1 month key will be generated. You can
enter the door as many times as want within the next month to regenerate
the key. However, you can only do that during that 1 month period. The
system will not allow you to receive another key after the 1 month period
has expired.
Example: Joe Blow enters the door on 03-11-74. He receives his key. He
returns on 24-11-74 and receives an the same key. Joe then
returns on 04-12-74 and enters the door. The system then
advises Joe that his 1 month Demo is complete.
