  68. 1. Introduction
  69.  
  70. The On-Line Sales Door is a product of many hours of work. It has been designed
  71. to make the use of PCBoard, and other third party programs, to provide an easy
  72. and efficient means of online sales and registrations.
  73.  
  74.      Online Sales has been designed to allow users access to a database
  75. of items you have for sale on you BBS.  This is not a real database but
  76. is only a text file that is extracted from a database or spreadsheet. I
  77. use a Spread Sheet to enter all my Items and calculate the Prices.  It
  78. is quite easy to dump the file to text from there.  Outlined below are 
  79. the rules for setting up the text file.  I have included a sample of the
  80. text file for you to use.
  81.  
  82. You can also set them up in categories, search on keywords, scroll through
  83. the whole database, flag items for processing, Place orders online,
  84. calculate taxes & freight, specify defaults for everything!!!!!
  85.  
  86. This door can provide you with many other options and is very flexible. The fact
  87. that it is flexible brings along a fair number of problems in its self.  These
  88. docs are an attempt to clear up any problems you may run into.
  89.

  94. 2. Requirements
  95.  
  96. The following list of items are required for complete operation of this program:
  97.  
  98. -      PCBoard or a conversion program for BBS control file.
  99. -      IBM PC or Compatible
  100. -      A Modem (Optional, can be run locally)
  101. -      ANSI
  102. -      TXT2MSG (Optional, only needed if you are importing or faxing invoices)
  103. -      DSZ.COM (Optional, only needed to allow downloading of invoices)
  104.  
  105. 3. Testing
  106.  
  107. This program has been run and successfully tested on the following machines and
  108. modems.  Any other additions to the list will be appreciated.

  120.  
  121. Setup of the Sales door should be performed completely through the setup program
  122. provided.  There are 4 other programs that come with the setup program.  The
  123. following is a list of programs needed to run the complete setup functions:

  125. -      SETUP.EXE 
  126.        This is the main shell.  Run this.
  127.  
  128. -      OPTION1.EXE
  129.        This is the General setup options page 1.
  130.  
  131. -      OPTION2.EXE
  132.        This is the General setup options page 2.

  134. -      CONVDB.EXE
  135.        This is the index creation program
  136.  
  137. -      SALESTXT.EXE
  138.        This is your SALESTXT modification program.  This program will allow you  
  139.        create language specific prompts for the sales door.

  171. The main menu will allow you to access the different portions of the setup
  172. program.  You can use 3 different methods of selecting your menu option. You can
  173. 1) use your cursor keys and move the red bar over top of the selection you want
  174. then hit enter, 2) press the first, or Highlighted, letter corresponding to the
  175. selection desired, or 3) use your mouse to click upon the selection you require.
  176.  
  177. The <ESC> key will abort any of the following screens and return you to the
  178. main menu.

  213. This screen will allow you to select and maintain as many configurations as you
  214. wish.  To select the configuration you need simply place the highlight bar on
  215. top of the configuration you require and hit enter.  If you have a mouse
  216. activated, you can also place the mouse on top of the selection desired and
  217. click to select the configuration.
  218.  
  219. Some people will have many different sales doors and will have a number of
  220. configuration files.  To simplify this matter we have added a sorting function
  221. for the setup.  This functon can be activated by clicking the right mouse button
  222. or pressing the letter 'S'.  Upon activating this function you will be presented
  223. with the following screen:

  252. To select the sorting options with a mouse click on the option desired then
  253. click 'OK'.

  255. To select the sorting options with the keyboard, use your cursor keys and your
  256. Tab key to move around until you are highlighting the option needed and then
  257. press the space bar.  You will see the little dot appear on the option and
  258. disappear from the previous option.  Once you have the correct options use your
  259. Tab key to highlight 'OK' and press enter.

  291. To move around the screen use you up and down arrows or Tab keys.  The left and
  292. right arrows will allow you to move within each field.  The end key will move
  293. you to the end of the field and the home key will move you to the beginning of
  294. the field.  The F10 key will save your configuration and the <ESC> will abort
  295. it.  PgUp and PgDn do nothing.
  296.  
  297. Company Name     - The entry you place here will appear on several screen in
  298.                    the Sales Door and will also appear on the invoice.
  299.  
  300. Opening Bulletin - This is the name of the ANSI file you wish to display above
  301.                    the main menu selections of the Sales Door.
  302.  
  303. Database         - This is the name of your main database of items.
  304.                    Please refer to the section 5 of the documentation for the
  305.                    proper layout of this file.
  306.  
  307. Order Intro      - This is the name of the screen you wish to display before
  308.                    entering the order placement module of the Sales Door.
  309.  
  310. Invocation Batch - This is the name of the file you will call from PCBoard
  311.                    to run the sales door.  Upon saving the configuration the
  312.                    setup program will generate this file for you.
  313.  
  314. Orders Directory - This is the path to the directory you wish to save your
  315.                    orders in.  The system will write all orders inside this
  316.                    directory.  The orders are generated in sequential order
  317.                    with a numbering scheme as follows:

  323. FREIGHT
  324. ============================================================================

  326. Freight          - This field will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  Placing a 'Y' will
  327.                    enable the frieght calculation of the Sales Door.
  328.  
  329. Company x        - This is the name of the freight company that will appear
  330.                    in the Sales door.
  331.  
  332. Amount x         - This is the initial/onetime freight charge for the item.
  333.  
  334. Extra 1lb x      - This is the cost per extra pound for shipping
  335.  
  336. The freight charge is calculated as follows:
  337.  
  338.         Freight Charge = (Amount x) + ((Weight) * (Extra 1lb x))
  339.  
  340.         Weight is specified in the Database.  Please refer to section 5
  341.         for the layout of the database.

  345. Memberships      - This field will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  If a 'Y' is entered
  346.                    it will enable the membership module of the Sales door.
  347.                    Please refer to section 6 for specs on membership.
  348.  
  349. Listing          - This is the name of the memberships text file.  Please refer
  350.                    to section 6 for the layout of this file.
  351.  
  352. Invoice/Memberships - This field will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  Entering a 'Y' will
  353.                       instruct the Sales door to print all invoices and
  354.                       memberships.  It uses the printer port specified in your
  355.                       PCBoard setup.
  356.  
  357. Default Tax      - This is the tax you wish to default to in the Sales door.
  358.                    This will appear when a user places an order.  If the user
  359.                    specifies 'Y' when asked if the order is taxable this value
  360.                    will appear in the tax field.  The user can overwrite this
  361.                    value if needed.  The reason for this format is to make the
  362.                    door portable throughout the world.
  363.  
  364. CAN/USA Prompts  - No longer applicable.  Please ignore.
  365.  
  366. Config Name      - This is the name of the configuration you are building or
  367.                    modifying.  This also allows you to create new
  368.                    configurations.  If you specify a different name in this
  369.                    field, the program will leave the old config untouched and
  370.                    simply save all the options in the new configuration.
  371.  
  372. PCBoard Path     - This is the path to the node you are running this door and
  373.                    configuration on.
  374.  
  375. Door Path        - This is the path to the directory that your sales door lives
  376.                    in.
  377.  
  378. Comm Port        - This is the communications port that the modem running the
  379.                    Sales door with this configuration is using.  This is
  380.                    essential to the correct operation of DSZ for downloading
  381.                    invoices.
  382.  
  383. Zmodem:          - These fields will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  Specifying a 'Y'
  384. MobyTurbo:         will enable these protocols for downloading invoices.

  394. Credit Cards?    - This field will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  Entering a 'Y' will
  395.                    enable the credit card verification portion of the Sales
  396.                    door.

  398. VISA:            - These fields will accept a 'Y' or 'N'.  Entering a 'Y'
  399. Mastercard:        will enable the verification ability for that credit card

  524.                             Membership.

  530.                             wish to import the message into.

  659. This section will allow you to create language specific prompts for the Sales
  660. door.  The Sales Door will read the language selected in PCBoard and use that
  661. default.  For example: If Joe Blow selected French in PCBoard, PCBoard would
  662. use PCBTEXT.FRE.  The Sales Door will detect this and will look for a file
  663. named SALESTXT.FRE in the directory it lives in.  If it does not exist it will
  664. default to SALESTXT.

  743. 1) The very first line of the SALES.BBS file must be blank.

  746. 3) There must be a blank line between categories followed by a heading

  748. 4) The Category Title can be no longer than 20 Characters.
  749. 5) The Item description must be no more than 35 characters long.  You can use
  750.    blanks to fill in the rest of the line.  You can also have  an additional
  751.    14 description lines.  Keep the description lines in the same columns as

  770. ITEMNO?.NDX files.  The category files will be named CAT1.BBS .... CATn.BBS
  771. according to the way they appear in the database.  The SALESNDX.? files will
  772. be named SALESNDX.A ... SALESNDX.Z.  These files are for faster keyword
  773. searches. The ITEMNO?.NDX files will be named ITEMNO.NDX and
  774. ITEMNO0.NDX ... ITEMNO9.NDX.  These file are faster checking of item numbers
  775. for the order placement and flagging options.

  777. The WGT entry is the weight for the freight calculation.  This is the amount of
  778. extra poundage to apply against the order when calculating the freight charges
  779. for the order.

  841. 6. Membership Registrations Database.

  844. The membership registration portion of this program will allow
  845. users to be automatically upgraded when applying for a membership.
  846. The system will present the user with a listing of memberships and
  847. allow the user to choose the membership they wish.

  849. Upon selecting the membership, the system will check the upgrade
  850. security against the users current security.  If the system finds
  851. the current security is higher or equal to the memberships security
  852. selected, it will issue an error message to the user.
  853.  
  854. If the users security is lower than the membership selected the system
  855. will ask the user if they wishe to apply using a credit card.  The credit
  856. cards available on your system will be listed.  If the answers is 'N' the
  857. user will be returned to the main menu.  If 'Y' they will be prompted for
  858. a credit card number.  If a valid credit card number and expiration is
  859. entered then the system will log the registration to the logfile specified
  860. in the configuration file and automatically upgrade the users access.

  862. This way the user will have a new access level when he leaves the door.

  933. in your batch file.  If it is run from the command line or outside of a

  936. You should also work best if you enter PCBoard and shell to DOS.  Then
  937. copy your PCBoard.sys & PCBoard.dat to a destination of your choice.

  1036. 14. Obtaining a Demo Key
  1037.  
  1038. A one month DEMO Key is available by calling The Support Group and
  1039. downloading the key.  Just enter the Sales Door from the doors menu
  1040. and use option C.
  1041.  
  1042. The type of key you are eligible for will be determined when you enter
  1043. the door.  If you are a registered user of The On-Line Sales Door a
  1044. registered key will be generated.  If you are here to receive a Demo
  1045. Key the system will automatically generate that key for you.
  1046.  
  1047. If you are here for a Demo Key a 1 month key will be generated.  You can
  1048. enter the door as many times as want within the next month to regenerate
  1049. the key.  However, you can only do that during that 1 month period.  The
  1050. system will not allow you to receive another key after the 1 month period
  1051. has expired.

  1053. Example: Joe Blow enters the door on 03-11-74.  He receives his key.  He
  1054.          returns on 24-11-74 and receives an the same key.  Joe then
  1055.          returns on 04-12-74 and enters the door.  The system then
