  1. CIESIN Catalog Services for Windows Beta -- Sept '93 
  2. ---------------------------------------------------------

  4. This version of Catalog Services provides a self-installation program on the distribution diskette.
  5. If Applicable, copy all files contained in the WINGP.ZIP file to a FLOPPY DISK. 
  6. **IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to install WinGP from a hard drive or sub-directory on a disk.
  7. To install WinGP, run SETUP.EXE from the distribution disk and follow the on-screen prompts.

  9. If you have a TCP/IP Windows Sockets implementation installed already on your system then 
  10. you are ready to try WinGP otherwise you will need to use a 100% Hayes Compatible modem.
  11. A driver for implementing a subset of Windows Sockets over a modem through a compatible
  12. Terminal Server is included with this package.

  14. To run Catalog Services:
  15. Run the executable file named WINGP.EXE.
  16.     -or-
  17. Double click on the Catalog Services Icon in Program Manager.
  18.  
  19. To load a particular configuration at run time, type:
  20.     WINGP /iNewConfig.cfg
  21. where NewConfig.cfg is the name of the configuration file you want to load.

  23. To run the Catalog Services configuration editor, type:
  24.     WINGP /c
  25.      -or-
  26. Double click on the Catalog Services Configuration Icon in Program Manager.
  27.  
  28. If you are unable to connect to the SSR server due to any incompatibility, 
  29. you can establish a connection to sirius.poly.edu on the specified ports
  30. manually. Once the connection is established 
  31. (when you see: 
  32.         +OK Welcome to SSRP Server
  33.         +OK made asscociation ...  )
  34. exit your modem program WITHOUT HANGING UP. Then run Catalog Services with the following switch.
  35. To run Catalog Services with a manual modem connection, type:
  36.     WINGP /m
  37. and it will attempt to attach itself to the current modem connection.
  38. ***(If Windows asks if it should assign the serial COM port to 
  39. a Windows program, respond YES so that it may take control of the port).
  40. It is important that you configure Catalog Services to match the setup of the modem connection in progress
  41. or undesirable results will occur.

  43. This version also includes a program for initiating a manual connection to the server.
  44. It simplifies the task by opening the communication port specified in the Catalog Services configuration
  45. files and allowing you to enter the appropriate commands to obtain a connection to a host machine.
  46. Once a connection is established with a GP server
  47. (when you see: 
  48.         +OK Welcome to SSRP Server
  49.         +OK made asscociation ...  )
  50. press OK and the program will run the WinGP application appropriately.

  60. - Ability to display TIFF, BMP, PCX, GIF, and JPEG images

  63. KNOWN PROBLEMS:
  64. -possible data loss at speeds above 9600 baud due to Windows COMM driver.
