- 3.) Installation of the drivers
-
- a) Start the "Windows NT setup"-program of the group "main" and
- wait a moment.
- b) Open the menu "options" und select "Change System Settings".
- c) Open the option box for "Displays" of the new window
- "Change System Settings".
- d) In here scroll until the end and select "Others (Requires a
- disk from a hardware manufacturer)".
- e) A new window "Insert Disk" appears and you are requested to
- insert the installation disk "A:\". If necessary, the default
- selection can be overwritten.
- f) The window "Select OEM Option" appears and you get a list of
- the supported miro boards with their resolutions and frequencies.
- Select an appropriate resolution according to your board and monitor
- and wait a moment.
- g) The window "Change System Settings" appears again, indicating
- the selected driver at "Displays". Confirm by using the "Close"
- button.
- h) If you already installed the drivers in former times you are asked
- whether you want to install the former or the new drivers. Confirm
- the new installation by using the button "New".
- i) A new window "Windows NT Setup" appears and you are requested to
- insert the installation disk. Confirm by using the "Continue" button.
- j) Now you see the introduction menu of the setup-program. Leave
- the program now, e.g. by selecting the menu "Options" and "Exit".
- k) Windows NT gives you the information that the new driver will
- only be effected after a system reboot.
-
- In case of a board with two drivers available (e.g. 256 and 16.7
- million colours) the procedure b) to i) has to be repeated for
- the second driver.
-
- If problems of the display driver occur when rebooting the system,
- you have the possibility to reselect the former configuration by
- using the option "last known good menu". If this doesn`t solve the
- problem you have to repair your system by using the Windows-NT-setup-
- disk/-CD and the "Emergency Repair Disk". The "Emergency Repair Disk"
- should include a configuration with a VGA-driver "640x480, 16 colors"
- and your system has to run properly with this driver under all circum-
- stances. So you can start trouble-shooting now. In order to repair
- your system only select the options "Inspect configuration registry"
- and "SYSTEM (System Configuration)".
-
- If you change the graphics board don`t forget to reconfigure your
- system on the VGA-driver before. So you get a properly running
- system after changing the board and you will be able to install
- the drivers for the new board.
-
- The S3-drivers on the Windows NT-Setup-CD don't run together with
- miroCRYSTAL 20SD (twin), miroCRYSTAL 20SV (ergo/twin), miroCRYSTAL 40SV
- (ergo/twin) and miroMAGIC 20SV/40SV ergo/twin.
-
-
- 4.) Change of resolutions and colour modes
-
- a) Start the "Windows NT setup"-program of the group "main" and
- wait a moment.
- b) Open the menu "options" und select "Change System Settings".
- c) Open the option box for "Displays" of the new window
- "Change System Settings".
- d) Select the desired resolution from the list of the drivers installed
- for your board and your monitor. Miro now inserts the version number
- into the description string. Select the desired resolution for your
- board and monitor with the highest version number to avoid the
- installation of an old old driver or the use of an old installation
- script.
- e) If the driver is not installed yet a new window "Windows NT Setup"
- appears and you will be requested to insert the installation disk.
- Confirm by using the "Continue"-button.
- f) If the driver has already been installed you will be asked whether
- you want to install the current or a new driver. Confirm the use
- of the pre-installed driver by using the "Current"-button.
- g) Now you see the introduction menu of the setup-program again.
- Leave the program now ( e.g. by using the menu "Options" and "Exit").
- h) Windows NT gives you the information that the new driver will only
- be effected after a system reboot.
-
-
- 5.) Special hints concerning the truecolor driver
-
- The truecolor-driver is created as an accelerated framebufferdriver
- in the flatmodel.
-
- As a basic address of the framebuffer the driver presets the
- following 32-bit addresses:
- - board for VL-bus : FE80.0000 (hex)
- - board for PCI-bus : FE80.0000 (hex)
- If the boards don't run with these addresses (e.g. as a result of an
- incomplete address decoding of your motherboard) the addresses can be
- overwritten by an entry into the registry. Repair your system by
- applicating the measurements described at 3) together with the VGA-
- driver. Start the registry-editor REGEDT32.EXE of the \WINNT\SYSTEM32
- directory. Use its help-function for operating. Look for the key
-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine
- \SYSTEM
- \CurrentControlSet
- \Services
- \miroFlatModel
- \Device0
- Select EDIT and AddValue with your mouse. Insert the ValueName
- "FrameBufferBaseAddress" and the DataType "REG_DWORD". In the following
- menu-box insert a new address that will shurely work on your computer.
- After the confirmaton you will find the new inserted address beside
- data e.g. concerning resolution and colour-mode in the right window.
-
- You can delete this value by indicating with the mouse and pressing
- the DEL-Key. Take care not to change or delete any other value -
- your system would not be able to run after a system-reboot!
-
- One of the following versions of the installation disk will include a
- DOS-test-program that enables you to check a miro-board concerning
- available addresses.
-
-
- 6.) Association of the drivers with the various boards
-
- - CRYSTAL.SYS and CRYSTAL.DLL : 256 colours driver for
- - miroCRYSTAL 20SD (twin)
- - miroCRYSTAL 20SV (ergo/twin)
- - miroCRYSTAL 40SV (ergo/twin)
- - miroMAGIC 20SV/40SV ergo/twin
- - FCRYSTAL.SYS and FCRYSTAL.DLL : Highcolor- and Truecolor-driver for
- - miroCRYSTAL 20SD (twin)
- - miroCRYSTAL 20SV (ergo/twin)
- - miroCRYSTAL 40SV (ergo/twin)
- - miroMAGIC 20SV/40SV ergo/twin
- - S3.SYS and S3.DLL : 256 colours driver for
- - miroCRYSTAL 10SD
-
-
- 7.) Delete drivers
-
- Drivers that will no longer be used or that are out of date can be
- removed by reconfiguring with the Windows NT setup-program a different
- driver (e.g.: VGA Standard 640x480, 16 colors), rebooting the system
- and then deleting with the help of the file-manager at \WINNT\SYSTEM32
- the display-driver (extension: .DLL) and at \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
- the miniport-driver (extension: .SYS). From now on miro adds the
- file-time to the version number.
-
- After the installation of drivers with the option "Other..." there
- will exist several files OEMVIOx.INF (x=0,1,...) in the directory
- \WINNT\SYSTEM32. These are the renamed installation scripts of the
- current and the former installation disks. You should delete all of
- them except the file with the highest 'x' (the current installation).
- If you don't do so, drivers will be listed several times and by
- different installation disks and versions.
-
- Moreover the refering key should be deleted in the registry with the
- help of the registry-editor REGEDT32 (look at 4.) ). Look for the key
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine
- \SYSTEM
- \CurrentControlSet
- \Services
- \miro8BPP for the 256 colours driver
- \miroFlatModel for the highcolor- / truecolor-driver
- \s3 for the driver for 10SD
- Select the key in the left window with your mouse and delete it with
- the DEL-key. Take care not to change or delete any other key - your
- system would not be able to run after a system-reboot!
-
-
- 8.) Supported resolutions and frequencies of the various boards
-
- With this disk-release miro changes the original timings of these
- drivers to timings that are approximated to the VESA-standards.
- Horizontal and vertical refresh rates are approximated data and
- may change according to the technical and market development.
- The timings for resolutions of 1408x1024 pixels are not part of
- the VESA-standards but are adapted to them by miro.

-
-
- 9.) Special hints for miroCRYSTAL/miroMAGIC 20SV/40SV twin/ergo
- and miroCRYSTAL 20SD twin
-
- If you want to install/configure the graphics board
- "miroCRYSTAL 40SV ergo/twin" resp. "miroMAGIC 40SV ergo/twin"
- please select "miroCRYSTAL 40SV" in the setup-program.
-
- If you want to install/configure the graphics board
- "miroCRYSTAL 20SV ergo/twin" resp. "miroMAGIC 20SV ergo/twin"
- please select "miroCRYSTAL 20SV" in the setup-program.
-
- If you want to install/configure the graphics board
- "miroCRYSTAL 20SD twin" please select "miroCRYSTAL 20SD" in the
- setup-program.
-
- This version of drivers do not support the "TWINFACE"
- mode of the miroCRYSTAL 20SV/40SV twin. However, the output is
- switched to the second HiRes board and -monitor. Despite the
- VGA DOS box is displayed in full screen mode on the first monitor.
-
-
- 10.) If problems occur...
-
- In case of problems with the VGA-DOS-box in fullscreen-mode you
- should ask your dealer or miro for an update of the BIOS-ROM.
- A unsyncroniced image may be caught by switching between the
- windowed- and the fullscreen-mode of the VGA-DOS-box.
-
- The VGA-DOS-box as a part of the operating system only supports
- the resolutions available for a 'standard VGA', e.g. display
- modes up to 320x200 pixels with 256 colors or 640x480 pixels with
- 16 colors. If a DOS application tries to use a higher resolution,
- the VGA-DOS-box, or, in the worst case, the hole system might crash.
-
