  7. 1. Overview

  9.     This directory and its sub-directories contain the tools described
  10.     in the book, "Optimizing Windows NT", by Russ Blake (Microsoft
  11.     Press, 1993.)
  12.  
  13.     There are three subdirectories.  The MEASTOOL directory contains
  14.     a variety of useful measurement tools.  The PROBE directory
  15.     contains the Response Probe synthetic workload generator.  The
  16.     SRC directory contains the source for the Windows NT
  17.     Performance Monitor.

  19.     Each directory also contains another README.TXT file with further
  20.     information on its contents.

  23. 2.  Installation

  25.     To install the tools onto your hard disk: 
  26.     
  27.         A.  Make the drive contaning this diskette or CD-ROM
  28.             your current directory.
  29.  
  30.         B.  Type:

  34.             and press the ENTER key.
  35.  
  36.     Normally you will get the executable images which are suitable for 
  37.     the processor you are using.  In this case you will need somewhat 
  38.     under 2 MB of hard disk space.  There is also an option to 
  39.     install executable images for all platforms (x86, MIPS, and Alpha), 
  40.     in which case you will need about 4 MB of hard disk space.
