  18. If you try to establish a connection from a Microsoft Windows for
  19. Workgroups computer to a shared resource on a Windows NT computer, you
  20. may receive one or both of the following error messages:
  21.  
  22.  - From Windows NT:
  23.  
  24.       Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon
  25.       type at this computer.
  26.   
  27.  - From Windows for Workgroups:
  28.  
  29.       System Error:
  30.       DOS error 31 occurred.
  31.  
  32. These errors occur because another user logged on to the Windows NT
  33. computer as Administrator, and disabled privileges for the EVERYONE
  34. group ("Access this computer from network," for example). This
  35. prevents other users from accessing the shared resource.
  36.   
  37. Steps to Resolve Problem
  38. ------------------------

  40. On the computer that is running Windows NT, restore network access
  41. rights to the EVERYONE group by following the steps below:
  42.  
  43. 1. Log on as Administrator.
  44.  
  45. 2. From the Administrative Tools window, choose the User Manager icon.
  46.  
  47. 3. From the Policies menu, choose User Rights.
  48.  
  49. 4. Select "Access this Computer From Network" from the right dialog
  50.    box, then choose the Add button.
  51.  
  52. 5. In the Grant To dialog box, select the Everyone check box.
  53.  
  54. 6. Exit Windows NT and turn off the computer.
  55.  
  56. 7. Restart Windows NT so that the changes can take effect.
