- TITLE :Invalid Directory Structures with NTBACKUP after SP 2
- PRODUCT :Windows NT
- PROD/VER:3.10
- OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
- KEYWORDS:BUGLIST3.10
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- SYMPTOMS
- ========
-
- If a pre-Service Pack 2 version of NTBACKUP is used to do an operation on a
- tape that was backed up using the Service Pack 2 (or later) version of
- NTBACKUP, the results are unpredictable. This usually takes the form of
- invalid directory or file structures.
-
- CAUSE
- =====
-
- This problem occurs because previous versions of NTBACKUP were not UNICODE-
- aware. The version included with Service Pack 2 adds UNICODE information to
- the directory structure that pre-Service Pack 2 versions cannot understand.
-
- RESOLUTION
- ==========
-
- To avoid this problem, upgrade all Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced
- Server computers to the latest version available.
