- SYMPTOMS
- ========

- When you are using Microsoft FoxPro and open files with the NOUPDATE flag
- enabled, the following error message may occur:

- Cannot update file.
-
- This error message occurs when you are using a Windows for Workgroups
- workstation and you attempt to open files on a Windows NT server.

- CAUSE
- =====
-
- The cause of this problem is that Windows NT handles the SMBFlush command
- differently than the MS-DOS specification.

- WORKAROUND
- ==========
-
- To work around this problem, do one of the following:
-
- - Don't "USE" files with the "NOUPDATE" flag enabled.
- - Run the BASIC redirector with Windows for Workgroups.
- - Use LAN Manager 2.x or Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server
- redirectors.
- - Use LAN Manager 2.x servers or Windows for Workgroups server shares.

- Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
- Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post
- new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
- available.
