  15. SYMPTOMS
  16. ========

  18. When you are using Microsoft FoxPro and open files with the NOUPDATE flag
  19. enabled, the following error message may occur:
  20.  
  21.    Cannot update file.
  22.  
  23. This error message occurs when you are using a Windows for Workgroups
  24. workstation and you attempt to open files on a Windows NT server.
  25.  
  26. CAUSE
  27. =====
  28.  
  29. The cause of this problem is that Windows NT handles the SMBFlush command
  30. differently than the MS-DOS specification.
  31.  
  32. WORKAROUND
  33. ==========
  34.  
  35. To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  36.  
  37.  - Don't "USE" files with the "NOUPDATE" flag enabled.
  38.  - Run the BASIC redirector with Windows for Workgroups.
  39.  - Use LAN Manager 2.x or Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server
  40.    redirectors.
  41.  - Use LAN Manager 2.x servers or Windows for Workgroups server shares.
  42.  
  43. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
  44. Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post
  45. new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
  46. available.
