  15. Windows NT can be configured to print directly to a specified file without
  16. prompting for a filename. You can accomplish this by adding a value to the
  17. Registry. Once you add the value, you can configure an additional port from
  18. Print Manager.
  19.  
  20. To add the value, use the following procedure:
  21.  
  22. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
  23. problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them.
  24. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
  25. Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

  27. 1. Start Registry Editor and locate the following Registry subkey:
  28.  
  29.       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft
  30.       \Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Ports
  31.  
  32. 2. From the Edit menu, choose Add Value. In the Value Name field type the
  33. full path and filename you would like to print to (c:\print2.fil for
  34. example). Select REG_SZ for the data type. Leave the String field Blank.
  35.  
  36. 3. Save your changes and exit Registry Editor.
  37.  
  38. 4. Exit Windows NT and restart your computer.
  39.  
  40. 5. Start Print Manager and select the correct printer.
  41.  
  42. 6. Choose Properties from the Printer menu.
  43.  
  44. 7. From Print To, select the filename you specified in Step 2.
