  15. SYMPTOMS

  18. When you are using Windows NT with an Adaptec 1640 SCSI controller, your
  19. boot drive may corrupt if more than three SCSI devices are connected to the
  20. SCSI bus and your boot drive is SCSI-controlled. An error message appears
  21. when Windows NT is starting:
  22.  
  23.    Boot device is inaccessible.
  24.  
  25. CAUSE
  26. =====
  27.  
  28. According to Adaptec technical support, this problem is caused by:
  29.  
  30.  - Improper termination.
  31.  
  32.    -or-
  33.  
  34.  - A problem on the SCSI bus cable, such as bad hardware or hardware that
  35.    does not meet specifications, resulting in power leakage on the SCSI
  36.    bus.
  37.  
  38. RESOLUTION
  39. ==========
  40.  
  41. If the problem is caused by improper termination, use an active terminator,
  42. instead of passive termination.
  43.  
  44. If the problem is caused by a power leakage on the SCSI buse, you can put a
  45. terminator on the SCSI card itself. If the problem is resolved by adding
  46. the terminator, check the SCSI bus for proper termination and cabling
  47. problems.
