- PRODUCT :Windows NT

- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- SYMPTOMS
- ========
-
- When multiple users who use mandatory profiles log on to a single computer,
- a message may appear saying that the user profile cannot be loaded and
- access is denied.
-
- CAUSE
- =====
-
- A mandatory profile is copied to a temporary file on the local computer
- when it is loading. When another user logs on, the temporary file is copied
- over. The above message appears when certain Windows NT components hold
- open incorrect registry handles after a user logs off. This causes the
- temporary file to be held open by the Windows NT Executive. If another user
- tries to log on, Windows NT tries to copy the mandatory profile over the
- temporary file, but cannot copy it because the file is being used by the
- Windows NT Executive.
-
- STATUS
- ======

- Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
