  17. An "Access Denied" message appears when you attempt to access a resource
  18. across an untrusted domain that has permissions for the Everyone group
  19. in the following two situations:
  20.  
  21.  - When a user from an untrusted domain attempts to access your server and
  22.    they have the same user name with a different password defined in your
  23.    domain, they are prompted for a password or will receive the ôAccess
  24.    Deniedö message.
  25.  
  26.    -or-
  27.  
  28.  - The Guest account on your domain is disabled. This is the default for
  29.    Windows NT Advanced Server domains. If a user from an untrusted domain
  30.    is trying to access your server remotely, they will receive the "Access
  31.    Denied" message because they first need to do a remote logon to your
  32.    server.

  34. RESOLUTION

  37. There are two possible solutions to this problem:

  39.  - Enable the Guest account in your Windows NT Advanced Server domain.
  40.  
  41.    -or-
  42.  
  43.  - Set up a trust relationship where your domain trusts the other domain.

  48. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem Windows NT Advanced Server
  49. version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information
  50. here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
