  15. SYMPTOMS
  16. ========

  18. Remote Access Service (RAS) Administrator issues the following error
  19. message if your RAS configuration specifies Dial Out Only in the
  20. Network application in Control Panel:
  21.  
  22.    Error starting Remote Access Service on <Server_Name>. Check the
  23.    Event log on <Server_Name> for details.
  24.  
  25.    Error 1066: The service has returned a service-specific error code.
  26.  
  27. WORKAROUND
  28. ==========
  29.  
  30. To correct the setup so you will no longer receive the above error
  31. message, do the following:
  32.  
  33. 1. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon.
  34.  
  35. 2. In the Installed Network Software box, select Remote Access
  36.    Service.
  37.  
  38. 3. In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, choose Configure, and then
  39.    choose Configure again.
  40.  
  41. 4. In the Port Usage box, make sure either the Receive Calls Only or
  42.    the Dial Out And Receive Calls option box is selected.
  43.  
  44. 5. Choose OK, shut down Windows NT, and restart.

  49. Steps to Reproduce Behavior
  50. ---------------------------

  52. 1. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon.
  53.  
  54. 2. In the Installed Network Software box, select Remote Access
  55.    Service.

  57. 3. In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, choose Configure, and then
  58.    choose Configure again.
  59.  
  60. 4. In the Port Usage box, select the Dial Out Only option button.

  62. 5. Choose OK, shut down Windows NT, and then restart.

  64. 6. After logging back on to Windows NT, double-click the RAS
  65.    Administrator utility.
  66.  
  67. 7. From the Server menu, select Start Remote Access Service, select
  68.    your server, and then choose OK.

  70. The above error message will appear.
