  18. When you browse a Windows NT workgroup or domain from an MS-DOS or
  19. OS/2 LAN Manager Networking Client, you may be unable to browse the
  20. list of available servers on the network. Additionally, if a mixed
  21. environment of LAN Manager 2.x and Windows NT servers are being used,
  22. the LAN Manager servers may be visible in the browse list, even when
  23. the Windows NT servers are not.
  24.  
  25. When you use the LAN Manager browse command NET VIEW, you will receive
  26. the message "No entries in list." Under the Windows File Manager, the
  27. workgroup or domain will appear empty.
  28.  
  29. CAUSE
  30. =====
  31.  
  32. Windows NT has a configurable setting for the Server service, which
  33. enables LAN Manager 2.x Browser broadcasts. Because the MS-DOS
  34. Networking Client is LAN Manager-based software, this option needs to
  35. be enabled for the clients to browse any available Window NT servers.
  36. This option is not enabled by default.
  37.  
  38. RESOLUTION
  39. ==========
  40.  
  41. For all client computers to browse correctly, the Browse Master for
  42. the domain or workgroup must have this option enabled. Because the
  43. Browse Master responsibilities can be taken on by any Windows NT
  44. computer in the workgroup, it is recommended that in an environment
  45. with LAN Manager clients, all Windows NT computers should have this
  46. option enabled.

  48. Use the following procedure to enable LAN Manager broadcasts:
  49.  
  50. 1. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon.
  51.  
  52. 2. Under Installed Network Software, choose Server, and then choose
  53.    the Configure button.
  54.  
  55. 3. In the Server configuration window, select the "Make Browser
  56.    Broadcasts to LAN Manager 2.x Clients" check box.
  57.  
  58. 4. Choose OK to return to Network Settings and when prompted, restart
  59.    your computer to activate the broadcasts.
