  15. When you install Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server with the
  16. WINNT command, Setup is only able to copy the necessary files to a
  17. File Allocation Table (FAT) partition. WINNT.EXE cannot recognize an
  18. NTFS partition, an HPFS partition, or a raw unformatted drive. Also,
  19. WINNT will only check FAT partitions for available disk space, since
  20. it can only read this type of partition.
  21.  
  22. If there is not enough disk space on the FAT partition or if there is
  23. no FAT partition to store the temporary files for installation, you
  24. will receive the following error message:
  25.  
  26.    Windows NT requires a hard drive volume with at least 85 megabytes
  27.    (89128960 bytes) of free disk space. Setup will use part of this
  28.    space for storing temporary files during installation. The drive
  29.    must be on a permanently attached local hard disk supported by
  30.    Windows NT, and must not be a DoubleSpace or other compressed drive.

  32.    Setup was unable to locate such a drive with the required amount
  33.    of free space.
  34.  
  35.    Setup cannot continue. Press ENTER to exit.

  37. In order to install Windows NT using WINNT, there must be a FAT
  38. partition available with adequate disk space.
