  16. SYMPTOMS

  19. When you run Setup for Windows NT from CD-ROM discs or floppy disks on
  20. a COMPAQ ProSignia, text-mode setup hangs while scanning for SCSI
  21. adapters. There may also be a noticeable delay of about one and a half
  22. minutes during the SCSI detection.
  23.  
  24. CAUSE
  25. =====
  26.  
  27. The disk drive firmware of newer COMPAQ ProSignia computers appear to
  28. cause this problem.
  29.  
  30. The delay is a separate problem under investigation, which still
  31. occurs when the fix below is applied.
  32.  
  33. RESOLUTION
  34. ==========
  35.  
  36. A fixed SCSI driver is included for this particular problem on the
  37. retail CD. To use it, perform the following steps:
  38.  
  39. NOTE: Read the STATUS section below before proceeding.
  40.  
  41. 1. Copy the file DRIVER.SYS from the directory <cd
  42.    drive>:\DRVLIB\MISC\DRIVER\X86\ to NCRC710.SYS on the install media.
  43.    For CD setup, this is the CD startup floppy, or to Disk 1 of the
  44.    1.44MB floppy disks, or to both Disk 1 and Disk 2 of the 1.2MB floppy
  45.    disks.

  47. 2. Complete text-mode Setup using the modified media.
  48.  
  49. 3. Restart MS-DOS.
  50.  
  51. 4. Type "ATTRIB -h -s -r C:\NTBOOTDD.SYS" (without the quotes).
  52.  
  53. 5. Copy the driver to C:\NTBOOTDD.SYS and to
  54.    %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\NCRC710.SYS
  55.  
  56. 6. Restart your computer and continue with graphical-mode Setup.

  58. STATUS

  61. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
  62. Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S.
  63. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. For
  64. information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in
  65. the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
