  18. In Windows NT, if you are trying to print to a local printer and you
  19. only have the Read and Execute permissions (with NTFS) to the
  20. WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS directory, you may not be able to print
  21. from an MS-DOS application or a command prompt (CMD.EXE).
  22.  
  23. The print job spools to the local print queue, but there will not be
  24. any output. If you check the Event Viewer in the error (system) log,
  25. there will be entries listing the print job request, but with 0 pages
  26. printed. To remove the print jobs that won't print from the queue,
  27. shut down and restart Windows NT.
  28.  
  29. RESOLUTION

  32. To print correctly from MS-DOS applications and the command prompt,
  33. add either the Change or Full Control permissions to the
  34. WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS subdirectory by doing the following:
  35.  
  36. 1. Log on as an Administrator and open the File Manager.
  37.  
  38. 2. Select the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS directory.
  39.  
  40. 3. From the Security menu, choose Permissions.
  41.  
  42. 4. In the Directory Permissions dialog box, select the name of
  43.    the desired User or Group and select the Change or Full Control
  44.    permissions to this directory.
  45.  
  46. You should now be able to print correctly from MS-DOS applications and
  47. the command prompt.
