  19. Windows NT Setup stops on Disk 1 with the following error message:
  20.  
  21.    Setup could not be started. Could not open multi(0)disk(0)
  22.    fdisk(0)partition(0) ARC Status=13 Loader exited.
  23.  
  24.    Setup was unable to load file system support. The distribution disk 
  25.    or CD-ROM may be damaged.

  30. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version
  31. 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information
  32. here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

  37. This error message is generated with the following hardware
  38. configuration:

  40.    ALR Business Veisa 486/33
  41.    Ide hard drive
  42.    SCSI 1542C controller
  43.    CD-ROM Toshiba 3401

  45. Steps to Reproduce Problem
  46. --------------------------
  47.  
  48. 1. Start Windows NT from a floppy disk. Setup reads the TXTSETUP.INF
  49.    file.
  50.  
  51. 2. Select Express Setup and press ENTER. The SCSI controller is
  52.    located, and the following error message is displayed:
  53.  
  54.       Error: Setup was unable to load file system support. The 
  55.       distribution disk or CD-ROM may be damaged. 
  56.  
  57.       ENTER or CONTINUE
  58.  
  59. 3. Press ENTER. Setup locates drive C and asks about keeping the
  60.    existing file format or repartition and format, and so on.
  61.  
  62. 4. Press ENTER twice to continue. 
  63.  
  64. The following error message appears:
  65.  
  66.    Error: Setup was unable to invoke or complete CHKDSK on the partition
  67.    onto which you have chosen to install Windows NT. The disk may be
  68.    damaged or corrupted beyond repair or physically damaged.
  69.  
  70. NOTE: Other CD-ROM drives such as Sony or NEC work fine with the above
  71. system configuration.
