  18. The following error message may be displayed in the Event Viewer:

  25.     The driver detected a controller error on \Device\ScsiPort0
  26.  
  27. CAUSE
  28. =====
  29.  
  30. This error occurs when the Adaptec 1740 SCSI controller is configured
  31. for standard mode (154x compatible mode).
  32.  
  33. RESOLUTION
  34. ==========
  35.  
  36. This error can be ignored and the card will work properly in 154x
  37. mode or the 174x driver can be installed.
  38.  
  39. To install the 174x driver, do the following:
  40.  
  41. 1. From the Main group, run Windows NT Setup.
  42.  
  43. 2. Select Options and Add/Remove SCSI Adapter.
  44.  
  45. 3. Choose Add.
  46.  
  47. 4. Choose OK on the Setup Message, and then select Adaptec 174x.
  48.  
  49. 5. Choose Install and then follow the instructions for inserting disks
  50.    or the CD-ROM.
  51.  
  52. Configure the Adaptec 1740 SCSI Controller for enhanced mode. Please
  53. refer to your Adaptec 1740 documentation for steps to change the card
  54. to enhanced mode.
  55.  
  56. After the Adaptec card has been reconfigured for enhanced mode
  57. operation you will need to remove the 154x driver.
  58.  
  59. To remove the 154x driver, do the following:
  60.  
  61. 1. From the Main group, run Windows NT Setup.
  62.  
  63. 2. Select Options and Add/Remove SCSI Adapter.
  64.  
  65. 3. Select the Adaptec 154x driver.
  66.  
  67. 4. Choose Remove.
  68.
