- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- SYMPTOMS
- ========
-
- Page 393 of the Windows NT "System Guide" and page 491 of the
- Windows NT Advanced Server "System Guide" incorrectly state that you
- can back up files using a wildcard for a specific directory. The
- example given is the following:
-
- NTBACKUP BACKUP C:\MYDIR\*.BAT
-
- CAUSE
- =====
-
- If you attempt to use the example above to back up all files with the
- .BAT extension, or attempt to use the wildcard approach to backing up
- files, you will receive the following error message:
-
- Backup Error:
- No Files were selected for backup.
-
- RESOLUTION
- ==========
-
- Information received from Conner Software indicates that support for
- backing up individual files and/or using wildcard strings for backing
- up files is not supported from the command line.
-
- To back up individual files, you must use the NT Backup GUI interface
- application.
