  19. Windows NT Remote Access Clients cannot be validated if the password
  20. contains extended characters. Extended characters have ASCII codes
  21. above 128.

  23. CAUSE
  24. =====

  26. The situation surrounding this problem is very complex and it involves
  27. several interrelated Windows NT bugs besides #996.
  28.  
  29. Basically, if your Windows NT RAS client password contains any
  30. Extended characters, RAS client authentication will not properly
  31. convert their case (that is, uppercase versus lowercase). This will
  32. cause Windows NT RAS authentication to fail. It works fine for
  33. characters "a-z" and "A-Z."

  35. RESOLUTION
  36. ==========

  38. Until a bug fix is released, do not use extended characters in your
  39. Windows NT passwords. This is especially true for Remote Access and
  40. Services for Macintosh.

  45. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
  46. Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S.
  47. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. For
