- SYMPTOMS

- After removing a service like TCP/IP using the Network portion of
- Control Panel, when you restart your system, you get several error
- messages logged in the event log.

- CAUSE
- =====
-
- The Network portion of Control Panel does not remove dependent
- services when you remove a particular service. Because these services
- cannot find the service they depend on, they generate error messages.

- RESOLUTION
- ==========

- Remove all dependent services. If you are not sure which ones are
- dependent, note the ones that generate error messages or fail to
- start.

- STATUS

- Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version
- 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information
- here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
