  18. If you use a NET VIEW command at a Windows NT command prompt on a
  19. network with both Windows NT and Windows for Workgroups servers, the
  20. following error message may appear:
  21.  
  22.    There are no entries in the list.
  23.  
  24. CAUSE
  25. =====
  26.  
  27. This error occurs when a Windows for Workgroups version 3.1 system is
  28. a backup master browser in the workgroup and the Guest account has
  29. been disabled on the Windows NT master browser machine for the
  30. workgroup. If the primary master browser of a workgroup is busy, the
  31. backup master browser is used to report the list of servers.
  32.  
  33. This error occurs because there is no centralized account database in
  34. a workgroup to validate the Windows for Workgroups backup master
  35. browser when it tries to connect to the master browser to obtain the
  36. list of servers. The Windows for Workgroups backup master browser has
  37. to use the local accounts database on the Windows NT master browser
  38. for authentication before it can obtain the list of servers.

  40. If the Guest account is disabled on the master browser, a Windows for
  41. Workgroups 3.1 machine may be unable to connect and retrieve the list
  42. of servers.

  44. Windows NT backup master browsers do not send account information
  45. when obtaining the list of servers and are not authenticated.

  50. Enable the Guest account on Windows NT machines in the workgroup to
  51. ensure that any Windows for Workgroups machine can connect to any
  52. Windows NT system for a browse list.
