  15. SYMPTOM

  18. On a machine running Windows NT that has the Screen Saver activated,
  19. if the machine receives a net popup, a beep will sound when it arrives
  20. but when the screen is restored (by moving the mouse or striking a key),
  21. the popup will not appear.
  22.  
  23. This problem does not occur with 16-bit screen savers, 32-bit screen
  24. savers in Test mode, or when Password Protection is activated.

  26. RESOLUTION

  29. To receive the popup, send another popup to the machine while the Screen
  30. Saver is inactive. To accomplish this, send yourself a popup by starting
  31. CMD.EXE and issuing the command
  32.  
  33.    NET SEND name message
  34.  
  35. where:
  36.  
  37.    name     Is the username, computer name, or messaging name to send the
  38.             message to. If the name is a computer name that contains blank
  39.             characters, enclose the alias in quotation marks (" ").
  40.

  43.    message  Is the text you want to send as a message.

  45. Once the second message is sent, both popups will appear.

  50. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1
  51. and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this
  52. problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge
  53. Base as it becomes available.
