  15. A Windows NT Advanced Server that runs Windows NT Services for
  16. Macintosh (SFM) enables Macintosh and PC-compatible computers to share
  17. the same files, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel documents.
  18.  
  19. In the PC-based environment, more than one person can open the same
  20. Microsoft Excel document; the first user receives read-write access
  21. and subsequent users automatically receive read-only access. However,
  22. when a PC-compatible computer opens a Microsoft Excel document, an
  23. attempt to open the document from a Macintosh fails and the Macintosh
  24. user receives an "access denied" message.

  26. This occurs because Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh does not have
  27. the same defaults that Microsoft Excel for Windows does. The Microsoft
  28. Excel for the Macintosh Open File dialog box contains a Read-Only
  29. check box in its lower left corner. Select this option to open a
  30. spreadsheet that another user already has open. By default, this
  31. option is not selected.
