  14. You may receive the following error message when installing Windows NT
  15. on a Compaq Prosignia or SystemPro/XL:
  16.  
  17.    OS Loader 2.10
  18.    Loading file
  19.    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\winnt\system\ntoskrnl.exe
  20.    :Image can't be relocated no fixup information
  21.    The system did not load because it cannot find the following file:
  22.    WINNT\system\ntoskrnl.exe
  23.    Please re-install a copy of the above file.

  25. This error message is caused by the way memory is configured on Compaq
  26. SystemPro/XL and Compaq Prosignia computers. The factory default is
  27. "640K Linear." To successfully install Windows NT, you need to change
  28. this to "640K Compaq Compatible." To do so, follow these steps:
  29.  
  30.  1. Boot your computer with the Compaq System Configuration disk.
  31.  
  32.  2. At the first screen, press CTRL+A for Advanced Configuration.
  33.  
  34.  3. Press ENTER.
  35.  
  36.  4. Choose "Configure computer" from the main menu.
  37.  
  38.  5. From EISA Configuration Utility, choose "View or edit details."
  39.  
  40.  6. Select Compaq Memory.
  41.  
  42.  7. Select Base Memory and press ENTER.
  43.  
  44.  8. Select 640 Kbytes, Compaq Compatible.
  45.  
  46.  9. Press ENTER.

  48. 10. If asked to reconfigure memory addresses press OK.

  50. 11. Press F10.
  51.  
  52. 12. From EISA Configuration Utility choose "Save and Exit."

  54. 13. Save the configuration and press OK to reboot.
