EditWP.wpm
Converts Macros to WordPerfect Documents,
Brings them into WordPerfect for Editing, and
Recompiles them to Macros
by

1. Read the REGISTER.doc, LICENSE.doc, and WARRANTY.doc files distributed
with this macro.
2. Requires:
A. WordPerfect 5.1
B. The presence of the following files in the directory where
your WordPerfect macro files reside (in addition to EditWP.wpm):
1) EditWPM.bat
2) Macrolst.exe
3) MCompile.exe
4) TildeChk.exe
3. Features:
A. Enables the user to utilize WordPerfect as an editor
to create and modify macros.
B. The edited macro is recompiled and ready for use as soon
as the user exits from the document version of the macro.
C. Syntax and tilde error checking with return (at user's
option) to the editing of the macro within WordPerfect
in the event that an error is found.
D. In short, allows the user to gain the advantage of all
the power and familiarity of WordPerfect in the editing of
macros without any sacrifice in convenience.
4. Installation:
A. Copy the following files to the directory in which your
WordPerfect macros are located:
1) EditWP.wpm
2) EditWPM.bat
3) Macrolst.exe
4) MCompile.exe
5) Commands.ref
6) BoldCmds.wpm
7) TildeChk.exe
B. If your macro files are NOT located in 'D:\WP51\', then
edit the EditWP.wpm macro using WordPerfect's macro editor
(Ctrl-F10 EditM 2). Change the value assigned to the
"WPMDir" variable in the header section to the directory
in which your macro files are located. Be sure to put
the closing "\" at the end of any other directory you
enter.
D. That's all there is to it!
5. Operation:
A. To edit a macro using WordPerfect as your text editor,
simply run the EditWP macro (ALT-F10 EditWP [ENTER]).
You will then be prompted to enter the name of the macro you
wish to edit. You need only enter the name without the .wpm
(although the .wpm extension will be accepted). If the name
of the macro is blank or otherwise illegal, the user is alerted
to the fact and returned to WordPerfect where he/she can try
again.
B. If a macro with the (legal) name that you specify cannot
be found, the program assumes that you want to create a NEW
macro by that name and proceeds to place you in a blank macro
source code document, with the name you specified already filled
in. You may then proceed to enter any macro program you wish
using all the features of WordPerfect.
C. If the macro you specified does exist, EditWP will then
shell to DOS where the batch file will take over. An ASCII
text version of the macro will be created by MACROLST and this
will be imported into WordPerfect. In a few moments you'll be
facing your macro on the full document editing screen of
WordPerfect. Make any changes that you wish to make to the
macro.
D. For assistance in the syntax of macro and keystroke
commands, split the screen into two windows, switch to the DOC 2
window, and retrieve (using Text In/Out the first time) the
Commands.ref file. It contains all of the commands as well as
the number codes for the keystroke commands.
E. When you're finished editing, press EXIT (F7). The
compiler will take over at that point and (re)compile the macro.
F. All editing of the macro in WordPerfect is done in Document 2
(as of Version 4.01 of MacroAde). Therefore, make sure that
you don't have a document you're working on in the Doc 2 area
when you use EDITWP, or it will be overlaid by the macro.
If compilation is successful, you'll then be returned
to Document 1 in WordPerfect at whatever point in the document
you were located when you invoked EDITWP.
G. If an error occurs during the attempt to (re)compile the
edited macro, its correction is required before the process can
proceed further. The user is returned into WordPerfect to correct
the problem. If for some reason you don't want to resume editing
the macro in WordPerfect (e.g., you've tried to fix the problem
numerous times with no success), just press Ctrl-BREAK at the
point where you're told to press any key and respond with 'Y'
to the prompt 'Cancel Batch Job (Y/N)?'. This will cause the
original version of the .wpm macro file to be restored and you'll
be returned to WordPerfect at the top of a blank document screen.
H. Using BOLDCMDS.wpm: This little utility macro BOLDS all of the
macro and keystroke commands in a macro. It is provided for those
who want to retain the precise look of WordPerfect's internal
macro editor in the WordPerfect document versions of their macros.
There are at least two reasonable motives for this: the macro and
keystroke commands are much easier to pick out when they are bolded,
and the printed appearance of a macro listing is much more attractive
and easier to read when the commands are bolded. All that is
necessary to run this macro is to invoke it after the macro that is
to be edited has been brought into WordPerfect by EDITWP. Of course,
it will also work fine if the macro has been saved and retrieved as
a WordPerfect document.
